On October 22, 2026, city officials in Midland, Texas, held a ribbon-cutting to mark the completion of major renovations to the municipal Quail Course at The Courses at Hogan Park. The ceremony and public reopening are separate milestones: Midland says regular public play is expected to begin on October 30. The city framed the work as an investment in a local public-golf facility.
Quail is an 18-hole, par-72 layout at 3600 N. Fairgrounds Road, Midland, TX 79705. It is one of two full-length municipal courses at Hogan Park. For a public facility, the project matters beyond visual appearance: reliable turf, sustainable maintenance systems and a broad range of tee distances affect who can enjoy the course.
The rebuild addressed nearly every key playing surface. All greens, surrounding areas and bunkers have been renovated. Fairways were regrassed, new teeing areas were added, and a practice putting green now sits beside the first tee. The less visible engineering is substantial: a new irrigation system with reverse-osmosis water treatment. Consistent water supply and quality are important considerations for golf-course maintenance in West Texas.
There are notable architectural changes. No. 10 has been converted from a par three to a par four, altering both scoring expectations and the shots required to navigate the hole. An old pond has been restored on No. 12, reintroducing a water-related decision into that hole's strategy. The changes should be judged on the basis of actual rounds after reopening, rather than promises about difficulty.
Midland lists four measured course lengths: 5,116 yards from the white family tees, 5,908 from gold, 6,464 from red and 7,034 from the blue championship tees. A spread of nearly 2,000 yards helps different players choose an appropriate level of challenge. No. 2 is the longest hole at 410–541 yards depending on the tees; No. 13 is the shortest listed, at 120–177 yards.
Players should note two practical restrictions. The city says tee-time reservations are required every day of the week, while golf carts must remain on designated cart paths. This announcement is not a guarantee that particular tee times are already available. Current rates, hours and booking slots should be verified directly with the golf operator.
The Quail project demonstrates how municipal-course renovation can combine golf architecture, turf quality, water infrastructure and broader participation. The date to watch is October 30, 2026, the expected public reopening, not the earlier ribbon-cutting ceremony.
