Stanford Golf Course plans October 27 reopening during historic clubhouse redevelopment
Stanford Golf Course is closed October 19–26 for aeration and a temporary relocation. All 18 holes are scheduled to reopen October 27, while the historic clubhouse overhaul is expected to finish in April 2028.

A scheduled October 27 return to golf
Stanford Golf Course in California is nearing the end of a temporary full-course closure. According to Stanford University's official schedule, all 18 holes are closed October 19–26, 2026, for fall aeration and the relocation of clubhouse and food-service operations. The university plans to reopen the entire course on October 27. That is a scheduled date, not confirmation that play has already resumed.
The course is at 91 Links Road, Stanford, CA 94305. Golfers should distinguish the short maintenance closure from the much larger clubhouse renovation, which is expected to continue until April 2028. Stanford intends to keep all 18 holes operating during the main construction period. If individual holes must close temporarily, users are promised at least two weeks' notice by email.
A temporary clubhouse and a different playing route
After the planned reopening, check-in and the pro shop will move into a temporary trailer at 188 Electioneer Road, near the pickleball courts. A nearby food-and-beverage trailer will have a more limited selection than the existing clubhouse restaurant. Parking is available along Electioneer Road and in Lot L27.
The round will also have a new order: players will begin on the current second hole and finish on the first hole. Directional signs and a starter will assist visitors. Stanford says the Golf Learning Center remains available for lessons, fittings, clinics and regular programming. Players who need an electric cart are asked to include that request in the notes when reserving their tee time. Membership benefits will continue, although specific amenities such as lockers may be affected temporarily.
Restoring the architecture of 1930
The central redevelopment concerns the historic clubhouse, not a redesign of every hole on the golf course. Stanford plans to restore the original central hall to its 1930 appearance. The hall has been used for dining, but the golf shop will return to its original location inside it. Two new wings will be built to complement the older structure, with a second-storey open terrace overlooking the campus and San Francisco Bay Area.
Planned amenities include expanded reception and retail space, indoor and outdoor dining, a full food-and-beverage operation, member locker rooms and lounge, plus meeting and event spaces. The work is also intended to meet modern accessibility and seismic standards. Stanford identifies April 2028 as the projected completion, which remains subject to change.
Why the site matters
Opened in 1930, Stanford Golf Course was designed by George C. Thomas and Billy Bell Jr., with a later course renovation by John Harbottle in 2008. It is home to the university's men's and women's golf programmes and has hosted NCAA events, conference championships and U.S. Open qualifiers. The clubhouse project aims to combine this sporting heritage with a more functional and inclusive visitor experience.
Anyone planning a round should confirm the latest schedule and access rules directly with Stanford: October 27 is a planned reopening, not a promise of unrestricted public entry. The accompanying photograph depicts the actual course in August 2020, not the construction taking place in 2026.
