Nigerian champion, Kenyan venue

The Rift Valley Championship concluded at Nakuru Golf Club in Nakuru, Kenya, on 27 October 2026. Godwin Okoko of Nigeria claimed his first Sunshine Development Tour title with 209 strokes (10 under par) over 54 holes. The tournament was the eighth event of the East Africa Swing and the tour's first visit to Nakuru. The winner is Nigerian, although the tournament was held in Kenya.

Kenya's Simon Njogu of Golf Park Golf Club finished runner-up on 210 (−9), just one stroke behind. Edwin Mudanyi of Karen Country Club, who had led with one round remaining, placed third on 213 (−6). Dismas Indiza followed in fourth with 214 and Muthaiga Golf Club's Greg Snow was fifth on 215.

How the lead changed hands

Nakuru Golf Club played to par 73, making the combined par over three rounds 219 strokes. Okoko opened with 75 (+2), climbed the leaderboard with a brilliant 66 (−7) and closed with 68 (−5). The total, 75 + 66 + 68 = 209, is precisely 10 under par.

The Sunshine Development Tour's official report credits Okoko with six birdies, an eagle on the 16th and three bogeys in his final round. Their net effect is −5, matching the 68 he recorded on the par-73 course. Njogu's three rounds of 72, 69 and 69 added to 210, keeping the championship within reach until the finish.

Mudanyi was the golfer to catch after day two. Having opened with an even-par 73, he posted a bogey-free 65 (−8) to establish a three-shot lead. His closing 75 (+2), however, meant a final total of 213 (−6). The outcome underlined how quickly standings can change in a 54-hole stroke-play event.

Prize fund and the local significance

Okoko earned KES 400,000 before tax and 210 Order of Merit points. Njogu received KES 214,000 and 172 points. The overall prize fund was KES 2 million. Prize money, season-ranking points and the number of strokes on the golf course are separate measures and should not be confused.

The East Africa Swing brings together professional golfers and leading amateurs from across the region. Its events offer competitive development opportunities and, subject to eligibility, potential world-ranking recognition. Nakuru's debut added another Kenyan venue to the tournament circuit.

Looking ahead

The next announced event is the Alpha Bravo Golf Classic, scheduled for November 2026, with precise dates to be confirmed against the organizer's event calendar at Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate in Nigeria. Okoko heads to his home country with a first tour win; Nakuru's inaugural event will be remembered for a one-shot finish and a dramatic reversal of the overnight lead.
