World Wide Technology Championship names 120-player field as Ben Griffin prepares to defend in Los Cabos

The PGA TOUR's Oct. 30 field announcement sets up the Nov. 5–8 World Wide Technology Championship: 120 places, defending champion Ben Griffin, Billy Horschel and a critical FedExCup Fall status battle.

The PGA TOUR released the initial field on 30 October 2026 for the World Wide Technology Championship, scheduled for 5–8 November at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico. The 120-player event is scheduled for 72 holes of stroke play. As the sixth of eight FedExCup Fall tournaments, its meaning extends beyond the trophy: players on the qualifying bubble are still trying to protect their position on TOUR for 2027.

Griffin returns as defending champion

Ben Griffin is listed to defend the title he won in 2025 with 259 strokes (29 under par). His closing 63 (−9) left him two strokes ahead of Chad Ramey and Sami Välimäki, completing his third victory of that season. That is a record of last year's competition, not a forecast. No player has posted a score in the 2026 tournament because competition has not begun.

The announced field also includes Billy Horschel, Tony Finau, Ryan Gerard, Austin Eckroat, Luke Donald and Jackson Koivun. International entries include Rasmus Højgaard, Keita Nakajima, Haotong Li, Takumi Kanaya, Kensei Hirata and Kevin Yu. Donald is among the sponsor exemptions, and all commitments remain subject to withdrawal. An entry list should not be mistaken for a confirmed first-round starting list.

Mexican opportunities are part of the story

The organisers have identified Álvaro Ortiz, Alejandro Madariaga and Jorge Villar among the Mexican contingent. For local players, the championship offers a rare home opportunity to measure their games against established PGA TOUR members. A separate Monday qualifier on 2 November is scheduled to determine four additional entrants, another reason to treat Friday's announcement as a preliminary rather than immutable field.

The fall standings raise the stakes

A total purse of $6 million, a winner's share of $1.08 million and 500 FedExCup points are scheduled to be available. None of those points has been awarded. The FedExCup Fall matters especially for players trying to finish inside the top 100, preserving full TOUR status for the next season. Positions 51–60 also carry access to the first two Signature Events of 2027. Consequently, a made cut or a handful of places in the final standings can be more consequential to some entrants than a headline pairing.

A milestone at Tiger Woods' El Cardonal

El Cardonal at Diamante is listed by the PGA TOUR as par 72 and 7,452 yards. It was Tiger Woods' first golf-course design. The event reaches its 20th edition in 2026, having started in 2007 as the first official PGA TOUR tournament staged outside the United States and Canada. The move to Los Cabos in 2023 helped establish a Pacific-coast chapter in its history. Those milestones add context, but do not settle what four competitive rounds will bring.

The event has not started. The first competition round is scheduled for 5 November and the final round for 8 November. There is no 2026 leader or champion to report.
