A round of 59 is a rare achievement at any level of professional golf. On October 22, 2026, 24-year-old Nathan Petronzio produced one at the University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque during the First Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry. His 59 was 12 under par.
The timing made it even more remarkable. Petronzio entered the third round near the qualifying cutoff, then recorded ten birdies, an eagle and no bogeys to take the overnight lead. Golf Channel reported that his score was almost 14 strokes better than the field average that day. The finishing flourish came at the par-five 18th: after reaching the green in two, he holed an eagle putt from around 20 feet to break 60.
The 72-hole qualifier ended October 23, and Petronzio finished alone in second place at 14 under. Blaine Hale Jr. earned medalist honors at 16 under. Eighteen players advanced from Albuquerque, with a qualifying score of five under or better. Petronzio's stunning Thursday performance therefore translated into a place at the next stage, not merely a one-day headline.
According to Golf Channel's count, it was among only a handful of 59s recorded in PGA TOUR Q-School history. An Austin native, Petronzio played college golf at Southern Methodist University and Texas before turning professional in 2025. This was his third Q-School appearance.
The Second Stage is scheduled for December 1–4, 2026, across five US venues. Advancing is not the same as receiving a PGA TOUR card: the Final Stage follows on December 10–13, and only the top five there will receive 2027 PGA TOUR membership. The PGA TOUR's official tracker confirms Albuquerque's 18 qualifiers and cutoff, while the final results identify Petronzio as the runner-up.
