TGL reveals opening doubleheader: Koepka’s Motor City vs McIlroy’s Boston, Woods’ Jupiter vs champions

TGL has revealed the matchups for the opening day of its 2027 season. Two matches will take place at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on Sunday, December 27, 2026, bringing teams associated with Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods into the spotlight. Reuters and The Palm Beach Post report that expansion franchise Motor City Golf Club will face Boston Common Golf at 1 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. At 3 p.m., Jupiter Links Golf Club will take on reigning champion Los Angeles Golf Club on ABC.

First up: the newcomers. Five-time major winner Koepka heads Motor City's inaugural roster, which also includes Si Woo Kim, Jake Knapp, Bud Cauley and Jackson Koivun. Opponents Boston Common have McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley, Michael Thorbjornsen and Shane Lowry on their five-man squad. The opener offers the Detroit-based club an immediate test against a lineup rich in major-championship experience, and gives fans their first look at the new franchise in TGL competition.

Then comes the Finals rematch. Woods' Jupiter Links faces Los Angeles, which won the 2026 championship series 2–0. Woods last competed in TGL during the March final, making the December fixture an obvious focal point for speculation about his next appearance. An important distinction remains: being named on a team's season roster does not confirm a player will appear in a particular match. Each team selects only three of its five players for a contest, and the final opening-day trios have not yet been confirmed.

Season three expands TGL to seven franchises and 35 rostered golfers, with Motor City joining the six established clubs and teams increasing their squad size from four to five. The league confirmed the December 27 season start and a renewed ESPN broadcast agreement on October 1. Its hybrid format combines full shots struck into a giant simulator screen with live chipping and putting on a physical short-game area, all inside the purpose-built indoor SoFi Center.

The two opening fixtures give the new season a clear narrative: a debut for Detroit and a return meeting between last season's finalists. These are scheduled future matches, not played results. The identities of the three players who take the floor for each team, including whether Woods will participate, should be treated as unconfirmed until match lineups are announced.
