DP World Tour Q-School narrows the route to 2027 playing rights
The leading 15 finishers and any players tied at the cut-off at the 2026 DP World Tour Qualifying School Final Stage will earn playing opportunities on the DP World Tour for 2027. The equivalent threshold in the 2025 Q-School cycle was the leading 20 and ties. This change concerns tour entry and membership priority; neither the Rules of Golf nor the World Handicap System is being amended.
The DP World Tour published the 2026 Q-School schedule and threshold on 7 May 2026. On 20 October 2026, it published an updated preview of Second Stage entrants, reiterating that the route leads to Category 18 status for the 2027 Race to Dubai. The October preview is therefore an explanation of already-approved competition conditions, not a new rule suddenly announced on 20 or 26 October.
Is it exactly 15 cards?
Not necessarily. The official wording is the leading 15 players and ties. If multiple competitors share the final qualifying position, more than 15 players can qualify under the published condition. No named player can be declared to have earned Q-School status until the final results are official.
The type of status matters. Graduates receive DP World Tour playing opportunities in Category 18 and full HotelPlanner Tour status for the 2027 season. These are distinct benefits. Category 18 is a priority category, not an unconditional entry to every DP World Tour event: access depends on tournament fields and the tour's category ordering. “Full HotelPlanner status” should not be misreported as full unrestricted access to the main tour.
Second Stage: four 72-hole competitions in Spain
According to the tour's 20 October preview, 182 golfers advanced from ten First Stage events held across Europe during August and September. That figure counts First Stage qualifiers, not the complete Final Stage field: the Q-School structure also has defined routes for other entrants.
Four separate 72-hole Second Stage events are scheduled for 29 October–1 November 2026:
| Venue | Location | |---|---| | Desert Springs Resort | Almería | | Isla Canela Links | Huelva | | Golf Las Pinaillas | Albacete | | Fontanals Golf Club | Girona |
Advancing through Second Stage is not yet an award of Category 18. Players must still reach Final Stage and earn the requisite final finishing position. The official preview named several recognisable competitors, but was published before the last regular-season DP World Tour event in South Korea concluded; entry lists should therefore be treated as subject to updates.
Final Stage: 6–11 November in Tarragona
The official schedule lists INFINITUM on the Costa Daurada as Final Stage host from 6 to 11 November 2026, with a planned field of 156 golfers playing six rounds. The decisive Q-School target is the top 15 plus ties, linked to 2027 playing rights.
These are approved 2026 qualification conditions for the 2027 season, not proposed changes. Practical details such as individual entry lists can still change ahead of play and should be confirmed via the tour's current Q-School notices.
What changed from the previous cycle?
| Qualifying cycle | Published Final Stage threshold | Playing-rights season | |---|---|---| | 2025 | Top 20 and ties | 2026 | | 2026 | Top 15 and ties | 2027 |
The route has therefore become more selective. Importantly, winning Category 18 status is not the same thing as the full playing rights offered by the HotelPlanner Tour component of the award.
