Alps Tour Q-School opens a wider amateur pathway for 2027
The official 2026 Alps Tour Qualifying School regulations, governing playing categories for the 2027 season, allow male amateurs with a Handicap Index of 2.0 or better to enter. The organiser's published conditions for the previous qualifying cycle, leading into 2026, specified a maximum of 0.0. This is a meaningful change in a tour's entry criterion—not a change to the World Handicap System formula.
As of 25 October 2026, the ordinary entry deadline of 19 October has passed. A special extension to 3 November 2026 at 18:00 CET applies only to a narrowly defined exemption Category G. It is not a reopening of entries for the general field. GOLFTWITT checked the official 2026/2027 Q-School conditions against the organiser's earlier announcement.
Who was eligible?
The qualifying school accepts male professionals and male amateurs holding a Handicap Index of 2.0 or better, accompanied by a valid handicap certificate under the recognised national handicapping authority. The Tournament Committee may accept an amateur with a higher index at its discretion, but such an exception is not an automatic right. This handicap threshold is a tournament-specific admission condition.
An amateur does not breach the Rules of Amateur Status simply by entering and competing in Q-School. However, anyone beginning a stage as an amateur is ineligible for prize money at that stage. A player may turn professional before a relevant stage by notifying the Alps Tour in writing using its prescribed form.
Stage 1: 4–5 November
The first stage comprises 36 holes of stroke play over two days at Golf Club Le Fonti, Conero Golf Club and Golf Il Cerreto di Miglianico in Italy. The number of venues may be reduced depending on entries. Advancement is allocated on a pro-rata basis, reflecting the number of players who actually begin competition at each venue. Ties for the final qualifying place require a play-off. Organisers reserve 6 November as an additional day if play is delayed.
Final stage: 11–13 November
The final stage is scheduled for 54 holes, with an anticipated 156-player field across Golf Nazionale and Terre dei Consoli near Rome. Following 36 holes, the leading 65 players and ties advance to the final round at Golf Nazionale. 14 November is held in reserve should weather prevent the intended finish; the conditions set out how a two-round result or rescheduling may be handled.
Some players qualify directly for the final stage through defined exemptions, including certain Alps Tour Order of Merit positions, past Q-School winners, eligible WAGR amateurs, selected team championship participants and specified DP World Tour or HotelPlanner Tour members. Every exemption is subject to its exact wording and any ranking or category limits.
What playing status can a graduate earn?
| Final Q-School position | 2027 Alps Tour category | What it means | |---|---|---| | Top 35 plus ties | Category 6 | Higher-priority route to tour membership | | 36th–65th among those making the cut | Category 8 | Conditional membership, fewer opportunities and a mid-season re-rank | | 66th–156th | Category 9 | Reserve conditional status used to fill otherwise incomplete fields |
Qualifying for the final 65 does not itself confer fully exempt membership. Alps Tour explicitly says Category 8 provides fewer starts in stronger fields, while Category 9 is a reserve classification offering limited opportunities.
Fee, deadlines and next steps
The entry fee was €750, covering both stages and yardage books. Standard entries closed on 19 October 2026. Only Category G—up to ten players who contested the DP World Tour Q-School Second Stage in 2026, allocated first come, first served—retains a deadline of 3 November 2026, 18:00 CET. Applicants must check their entry confirmation and venue assignment through official channels.
These are binding competition-specific qualification conditions for the 2027 Alps Tour season, not revisions to the universal Rules of Golf or WHS. The committee retains powers expressly described in the regulations.
