Two landmark team titles in Ottawa

The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Golf Championships took place on 17–18 October 2026 at Hylands Golf Club in Ottawa, Ontario. Queen’s Gaels, representing Queen’s University in Kingston, won the first women’s OUA team golf title in the university’s history. In the men’s event, the Guelph Gryphons became team champions for the first time since 2000, ending a 26-year wait.

The two team trophies should not be confused with the individual championships. In particular, neither winning university swept the individual golds.

Historic first for Queen’s women

Queen’s posted a two-round team total of 470 strokes (+38) to finish 18 ahead of runners-up Guelph (488, +56). Waterloo (492, +60) finished third. The victory was the program’s first OUA women’s team crown, a milestone also confirmed in The Queen’s Journal’s independent report of 23 October.

Hannah Lee led Queen’s in the individual competition, finishing second on 154 (+10). Teammate Gabriella McDaniel recorded 157 (+13). The Queen’s Journal also reported that Jessie Mercer received the OUA women’s coach-of-the-year award. The team title does not imply that Queen’s won the individual event.

Guelph men win again after 26 years

The Guelph men — William Drewery, William Dodd, Carson Skinner, Andreas Diogenous and Caleb Shorthouse — totalled 591 (+15). Brock Badgers took silver on 593 (+17), with Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks third on 597 (+21). This was Guelph’s fourth OUA men’s team championship, and its first since 2000.

Andreas Diogenous helped deliver the turnaround with a final-round 69 (three under par), finishing tied fourth individually on 146 (+2). But the men’s individual gold went to Matthew Whitehead of Wilfrid Laurier, who completed the event on 144 (even par). The Guelph title was a team achievement, not an individual sweep.

Ela Jones takes women’s individual gold

While Guelph’s women finished second as a team, Ela Jones won the individual competition with rounds of 73 and 76, totalling 149 (+5). She beat Hannah Lee by five shots and earned the Judy McCrae Trophy. The only previous Guelph woman to take the OUA individual title was Jacqueline Giles in 2021. Jones’s gold and Guelph’s team silver are therefore entirely consistent results.

Ontario’s university championship, not a national title

The OUA championship covers universities in Ontario, rather than all Canadian university golf. The venue was Ottawa, whereas the women’s team champions are based at Queen’s in Kingston and the men’s champions at the University of Guelph. This location distinction matters when assigning the news to Canada.
