The South Course returned to play on October 16

Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas, reopened its South Course after renovation on October 16, 2026. The date is confirmed in a October 30 report by the regional Cross Timbers Gazette. This was the reopening of an existing golf course, not the unveiling of a newly built facility.

The ceremonial first drive came from Ray Hibler, 95, a longtime Robson Ranch resident with an extensive golf background. Hibler has an especially personal connection to Wildhorse: in 2019 he shot 71, seventeen strokes better than his age at the time. He described the opportunity to mark the South Course's return as a particularly meaningful occasion.

Where the investment went

According to Rhett Hubbard, general manager of the Robson Ranch Denton homeowners association, the Wildhorse improvements cost more than $4 million. The emphasis was on reliable turf and playing conditions, rather than increasing the hole count.

An April 17 project report in Golf Course Architecture identified Landscapes Unlimited as the contractor and Gary Brawley as the renovation architect. The programme included rebuilding greens to improve drainage and increase the range of possible hole locations, upgrading bunkers with the Better Billy Bunker lining system, and adding subsurface drainage at tees. The project was intended to preserve the core original green designs, not to replace the course with an entirely new layout.

All 27 holes available, with a temporary cart restriction

Reopening the South Course returns all 27 Wildhorse holes to play. That does not mean nine holes were newly built during this renovation: the club already operated as a 27-hole facility. Its official website confirms that the club is open to non-resident golfers and provides public tee-time and fee information.

While newly installed turf establishes, golfers must follow a cart-path-only restriction. Hubbard says keeping carts on the paths will help protect the investment and give the grass time to mature. The October 30 report did not provide a definite date for lifting that restriction.

The verified milestones are the October 16 return to play, the more-than-$4-million investment and the current access arrangements. The story should not be confused with an announcement of a future opening or proof that every minor post-renovation maintenance task has ended.
