A wire-to-wire victory in Bahrain

Sam Mullane, a member of the United Arab Emirates golf team, won the eighth Bahrain Amateur Open, played 22–24 October 2026 at Royal Golf Club in Bahrain. His 54-hole gross score of 201 (15 under par) secured an 11-shot victory, according to News of Bahrain on 24 October. UAE media subsequently carried the result and the Emirates Golf Federation's congratulations on 26 October.

The distinction matters: the competition was held in Bahrain, while Mullane represented the UAE. He grew up playing golf in Dubai, although he was born in England.

How 66, 65 and 70 added up to 15 under

Mullane opened with a bogey-free 66 (−6) and followed it with the tournament's standout 65 (−7). He reached the halfway point of the 54-hole event on 131 strokes (−13), with a ten-shot advantage over the nearest challenger.

A final-round 70 (−2) delivered 201 strokes overall: 66 + 65 + 70 = 201, or 15 under par over three rounds on a par-72 course. Having led after the opening round, Mullane remained in front to the finish, increasing his margin to eleven strokes.

Bahrain's Yaseen Le Falher finished on 212 (−4), as did Qatar's Daniil Sokolov. They were listed second and third, respectively, in the published gross standings. The separate net competition was won by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa with 209 net (−7). The two classifications should not be confused: gross records actual strokes, while net adjusts for handicaps.

An amateur title with a professional opportunity

The result also earned Mullane places in the King Hamad Trophy in November 2026 and the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, a DP World Tour event scheduled for 28–31 January 2027 at the same Royal Golf Club. The latter is an opportunity to play in a professional tournament, not a professional-tour win.

In an earlier Worldwide Golf interview, Mullane explained that he was born in England, moved to Dubai when young and learned the game at Emirates Golf Club. He has since represented the UAE and sought experience against stronger regional and international fields.

What stands out is the combination of three sub-par rounds, a commanding 11-shot gap and a path into a DP World Tour field. His Bahrain performance is a notable achievement for the UAE's amateur golf programme, but it does not predict how he will perform against professionals in January.
