From Asian Games gold back to PGA TOUR competition
On 26 October 2026, the PGA TOUR confirmed that Tom Kim will return to the circuit at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open, scheduled for 29 October–1 November at Vidanta Vallarta, Mexico. It will be the South Korean golfer's first PGA TOUR start since his gold-medal victory at the Asian Games in Japan. According to the Tour's official preview, Kim finished three shots clear of the field there.
The return adds another chapter to a productive season rather than marking a fresh start from scratch. Kim has recorded four PGA TOUR top-10 finishes in 2026, including his victory at the Genesis Scottish Open in July. The Mexican stop gives him an immediate opportunity to bring the confidence from his international success back to regular Tour competition.
An unusually competitive field
The tournament's confirmed player list includes Wyndham Clark, a two-time U.S. Open champion, defending Mexico Open winner Brian Campbell, and Tony Finau, the tournament's 2023 champion. Ben Griffin and Max Homa are also listed among the headline players. Kim will therefore return against major winners, established TOUR contenders and players familiar with the demands of Vidanta Vallarta.
Campbell has a clear incentive to defend the title. In 2025, he defeated Aldrich Potgieter in a playoff after both players finished regulation at 20 under par. That number refers exclusively to last year's results. Potgieter is also in the field for 2026, giving the event an additional rematch storyline.
Why the week matters
The Mexico Open is the fifth of eight FedExCup Fall tournaments, with 500 FedExCup points going to the winner and a $6 million purse. Many entrants are trying to strengthen their position for 2027, so the event will have consequences beyond the trophy. Kim's own story is slightly different: he arrives with a recent Asian Games gold medal and a Scottish Open victory already on his 2026 résumé.
The venue is a par-71, 7,337-yard Vidanta Vallarta layout. It has been substantially reworked for the Tour's return, meaning the strategic choices facing players are not identical to those of the previous edition. Risk management from the tee and opportunities on shorter par-4 holes could prove important.
Scores: not yet available
As of 26 October, the 2026 tournament has not begun. The opening round is scheduled for Thursday 29 October, with the fourth round planned for Sunday 1 November. No 2026 leaderboard scores should be inferred from the 2025 totals; the official leaderboard will become relevant once competitive play starts.
