Wenyi Ding makes Abu Dhabi field despite finishing 71st as DP World Tour names 70 available players

China's Wenyi Ding ended the Race to Dubai regular season 71st, yet appears on the DP World Tour's confirmed 70-player Abu Dhabi entry list. Here is why the 'available players' rule matters, and who else made it.

Wenyi Ding finished the 2026 Race to Dubai regular season in 71st place, immediately outside the headline top-70 cutoff. Yet the DP World Tour's confirmed Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship entry list, available on 26 October after the Genesis Championship, shows the Chinese player among the 70 competitors scheduled to tee it up at Yas Links from 5–8 November. It also lists all nine players who finished directly below him in the season standings. The apparent contradiction reveals an important detail in how the Play-Offs actually work.

The rule is 'top 70 available', not simply the first 70 names

Qualification for the opening Play-Off event is based on the leading 70 available players in the Race to Dubai rankings. When higher-ranked golfers do not appear in the field, the entry list can extend beyond 70th in the underlying points table. The Tour's newly published full field therefore provides a firmer guide to who is actually entered than a ranking-only cutoff.

The Tour has not supplied a player-by-player explanation for the absence of higher-ranked competitors. Their individual reasons should not be inferred or presented as confirmed withdrawals. The entry list is also a snapshot at the close of entries and remains subject to any subsequent official changes.

Following the Genesis Championship, Ding stood 71st with 856.91 Race to Dubai points, while Ryan Gerard occupied 70th with 868.14. Alongside Ding, the official Abu Dhabi field includes Nathan Kimsey (72nd in the regular-season table), Francesco Molinari (73rd), JC Ritchie (74th), Yurav Premlall (75th), Richard Sterne (76th), Ugo Coussaud (77th), Filippo Celli (78th), Darius van Driel (79th) and Jordan Gumberg (80th). The Tour specifically identifies Gumberg as the last man in at the close of entries. These positions describe the points ranking, not the order in which places were allocated in the tournament field.

The Genesis results behind the cutoff

The regular season concluded in South Korea on 25 October at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club. Yuto Katsuragawa won the Genesis Championship at 13 under par, earning 835 Race to Dubai points. Frederic Lacroix and Martin Couvra shared second at 11 under. Ding tied for 34th at four under, recording rounds of 74, 67, 70 and 69 and collecting 36.5 points. His result left him 71st in the standings, but the final Abu Dhabi entry list shows that ranking was not an automatic exclusion.

A title race within the selection story

Eugenio Chacarra leads the Race to Dubai ahead of Patrick Reed, Rory McIlroy and Casey Jarvis. Aaron Rai, fifth in the standings, returns to defend his Abu Dhabi title. Jon Rahm, Adam Scott, Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton are among the other major names entered. According to the DP World Tour, the field spans 22 nationalities, with Gregorio De Leo the only Rolex Series debutant.

The Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship will run from 5–8 November at Yas Links. Afterwards, the leading 50 available players will qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on 12–15 November. With the Abu Dhabi tournament yet to begin, no current 2026 tournament score exists; all scores cited here are from the completed Genesis Championship.
