Swiss professional Joel Girrbach has retained his DP World Tour playing rights for 2027. The player from Lipperswil ended the regular season 82nd in the Race to Dubai rankings, safely inside the top-100 threshold that secured his status for a fourth consecutive season on Europe's leading men's tour.

The confirmation came on 25 October 2026, after the last event of the regular season, the Genesis Championship, held in South Korea. The Swiss Golf federation reported the achievement as the key conclusion of Girrbach's year: his final-week position mattered less than the points he had accumulated across the season.

A steady, not spectacular, Korean finale

Played from 22 to 25 October at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, South Korea, the Genesis Championship saw Girrbach record rounds of 71, 72, 68 and 73, totalling 284 strokes (even par). He finished tied 54th. The title went to Japan's Yuto Katsuragawa with 271 strokes (13 under par).

Girrbach did not win the tournament, nor was the event staged in Switzerland. Rather, a Swiss golfer secured his future tour status through the season-long standings at an event hosted in South Korea. The distinction matters in reporting international results by country.

Why 82nd was enough

The top 100 of the Race to Dubai retained DP World Tour playing rights for 2027, while the top 70 qualified for the first event of the season-ending DP World Tour Play-Offs. Girrbach met the first target but not the second. A 2027 tour card should therefore not be confused with qualification for the 2026 play-offs, or with a tournament victory.

His position was built through an autumn run of results, including tied seventh at the Open de España in Madrid (−10) and tied 13th at the DP World India Championship in New Delhi (−11). Those finishes proved particularly valuable as the season approached its conclusion.

A Swiss connection to the comeback

Earlier in September, Girrbach also finished tied ninth at the Omega European Masters (−15) at Golf Club Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland. That home-course appearance provides the geographical connection shown in the accompanying historic photograph. The 2006 image depicts the Crans-sur-Sierre course, not Girrbach himself and not the 2026 tournament in Korea.

For Swiss Golf, the news is about continuity at the highest European level: Girrbach can plan another season with established DP World Tour playing rights rather than having to regain his position through a separate qualification route.
