Eight golfers, one different sort of competition
The second Optum Golf Channel Games is scheduled for December 16, 2026, at Trump National Golf Club Jupiter in Florida. Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will again captain four-player sides. Golf Channel published its team breakdown on November 2, following a broadcaster announcement dated October 28. This is a preview of an upcoming event, not a completed match or a conventional PGA TOUR tournament.
Team Scheffler: Scottie Scheffler, Chris Gotterup, Michael Brennan and Jackson Koivun. Team McIlroy: Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, Si Woo Kim and Haotong Li. The roster brings together players from the United States, Northern Ireland, England, South Korea and China. Organizers say six of the eight are ranked inside the world's top 20, with the captains occupying the top two places.
What the teams reveal
Scheffler returns as the reigning FedExCup champion and captain of the previous winning side. He has added three players whose recent PGA TOUR success makes them credible performers under pressure: Gotterup won three Tour titles in 2026, Brennan won two, and 21-year-old Koivun captured the 3M Open early in his professional career after an outstanding period at Auburn. All three are newcomers to this event.
McIlroy's group is more internationally varied. Fitzpatrick enjoyed a multiple-win season; South Korea's Si Woo Kim recorded a string of PGA TOUR top-10 finishes and represented the International Team at the Presidents Cup. China's Haotong Li, a four-time DP World Tour winner, is returning after taking part in the inaugural Golf Channel Games. The Asian representation also shows how the organizers want a broader international audience for a made-for-television contest.
The format—and what is still unknown
Confirmed returning challenges include Team Relay and the 14-Club Challenge, with further new tasks planned. Speed, coordination and decisions against the clock are central to the format. It is not a four-round, 72-hole stroke-play event. Full rules for the new challenges, along with any possible scoring adjustments, should not be assumed before the organizers provide them.
The contest will take place under lights, with live television coverage on Golf Channel and USA Network. Scheffler's side will defend the inaugural team title, but the changed rosters and challenges mean last year's outcome does not predict the next result.
Why it matters
The appeal for broadcasters is a compressed presentation of elite golfing skills: viewers can follow a player's decisions, shot execution and team dynamics without watching an entire conventional tournament round. It may make the sport easier to approach for new audiences, while remaining entertainment rather than a substitute for PGA TOUR competition. Golf Channel Games results must not be confused with official tour titles, rankings points or season earnings.
December 16 is the next confirmed competitive milestone. No winner or score exists yet for the 2026 edition.
