A preview, not the public opening
Visitors and golf journalists were given an early look at Pinehurst No. 11 in North Carolina in late October 2026. In a report published October 29, GOLF.com described the new 18-hole layout designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, with lead associate Ryan Farrow. The preview offered a first glimpse of its architecture; regular play has not begun. Pinehurst Resort lists March 29, 2027 as the scheduled opening date.
A former sand mine shapes the golf
The course occupies part of Pinehurst Sandmines, roughly four miles from the main resort. Mining between the 1930s and 1950s left ridges, spoil heaps and abrupt contours that have since been softened by pine trees and native vegetation. Instead of erasing that industrial history, the design team worked the landforms into the routing. They influence sightlines, approaches and the choice between ambitious and conservative shots.
The opening par four plays down from sandy higher ground toward a fairway framed by natural sandy areas before rising to a green. On the second, ridges to the right can obstruct an approach from an errant position off the tee. The short par-four seventh offers a contrasting scene, with an unusually shaped green set against a lake. These are observations from an advance visit, not claims about tournament play.
An intentional contrast with No. 10
Next door sits Pinehurst No. 10, Tom Doak's design that opened in 2024. GOLF.com's course account describes No. 10 as broader and more expansive, whereas No. 11 threads through intimate corridors among pines and old mining mounds. Trees and ridges can make the available line look narrower than it really is, adding a visual decision to an already strategic game.
No. 11 is Coore and Crenshaw's first entirely new course at Pinehurst. Their previous work at the resort included the restoration of Pinehurst No. 2, known for its sandy ground and native wiregrass.
Opening and access
The resort's official No. 11 page gives March 29, 2027 as the planned start of play. Tee-time access is linked to Pinehurst Resort stays and golf packages; golfers should check actual availability directly with the property. An advance preview should not be confused with an opened course.
