Nicolai Højgaard has confirmed that he will play the BMW Australian PGA Championship at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney on 26–29 November 2026. Australian Golf Media announced his entry on 30 October. It will be the 25-year-old Dane’s first competitive appearance in Sydney, while the championship returns to The Lakes for the first time since 1987.

A meaningful addition to the field

Højgaard was world No. 47 at the time of the announcement. He has three DP World Tour titles, including the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in 2023, and was part of Europe's victorious Ryder Cup side that year. In 2026 he came close to a first PGA TOUR win twice, finishing runner-up at the Texas Children’s Houston Open in March and again at the Truist Championship in May. His entry therefore adds a current contender, not merely a recognizable name.

The Sydney event is scheduled to open his 2026/27 DP World Tour campaign. For players dividing their schedules between the United States and Europe, southern-hemisphere tournaments offer a way to maintain competitive momentum as the calendar turns. The confirmation is an entry announcement, not a result or a prediction of victory.

Why the venue matters

The BMW Australian PGA Championship is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia. Their expanded partnership, announced in late October, includes a three-year continuation of the tournament's co-sanctioned status and reinforces the Australian circuit's international links.

The return to The Lakes, for the first time since 1987, gives the 2026 championship a historical dimension beyond its field. The tournament takes place 26–29 November and no competition rounds have been played at the time of this announcement.

A deep international line-up

Defending champion David Puig is among the confirmed entrants. The organizers also name Adam Scott, Min Woo Lee, Cameron Smith, Lucas Herbert, Elvis Smylie, Cam Davis, Corey Conners, Carlos Ortiz, Daniel Hillier, Travis Smyth and Josele Ballester. The line-up spans several international tours and gives Højgaard substantial competition from the opening round; as with any advance field, entries may still change before play begins.

For Højgaard the question is whether the consistency that produced two American runner-up finishes can lead to another title. Sydney will provide the evidence. The announcement alone does not settle the outcome.
