Norway — 30 October 2026. Oslo Golfklubb has been confirmed as the Norwegian host of The Viking (Battle of the Vikings), a newly established golf contest between Norway and Denmark. Play at the Bogstad course in Oslo is scheduled for 22 July 2027, followed by a second day at Great Northern in Kerteminde, Denmark, on 23 July. The club announced its selection on 30 October, with independent coverage published by Norsk Golf the same afternoon.
Hovland and Reitan versus the Højgaard twins
Viktor Hovland and Kristoffer Reitan will lead Norway, while Denmark’s leading names are twin brothers Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard. According to Oslo Golfklubb, all four are expected to compete, not merely appear as figureheads.
Each national team will have 12 players, bringing established professionals together with women, juniors and emerging talent. The complete rosters have not yet been announced. There is therefore no confirmed basis for naming additional starters, pairings or individual matches.
A Norwegian stage for a Nordic project
Bogstad, beside Bogstadvannet in Oslo, is a long-established setting for Norwegian golf. Hosting the Norwegian day there gives local fans the chance to see the new contest on home ground. The second day moves to Great Northern, near Kerteminde on Denmark’s island of Funen.
The event is being developed jointly by Norway’s NextUp Golf Team and Denmark’s GolfPromote. Their ambition is to establish an annual cross-border contest while also drawing attention to the next generation of golfers. Oslo Golfklubb says its regular two-day NextUp Invitational for leading Norwegian juniors will take place immediately before The Viking.
What remains unconfirmed
Organisers say neither course will be presented in its usual competition configuration. A special course set-up is being designed to bring spectators closer to the action, with further details promised for early November 2026.
However, the scoring format, order of matches and method for deciding the winner have not been confirmed. It would be inaccurate to label the event a conventional Ryder Cup-style match-play contest, or to assert foursomes or four-ball arrangements, before the rules are released.
The club expects restrictions on ordinary member play during the event. Ticketing and spectator arrangements are still to be detailed.
The confirmed facts are the venues, dates and four headline players: Oslo Golfklubb on 22 July and Great Northern on 23 July 2027; Hovland and Reitan for Norway, Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard for Denmark. Further player selections and the precise playing format are still pending.
