Six victories did not guarantee another season. Marcel Siem, one of German golf's most recognizable professionals, has missed out on automatically retaining full DP World Tour playing rights for 2027. His last opportunity at the Genesis Championship in South Korea ended almost as soon as it began: an opening 81, 11 over par, followed by a withdrawal. The DP World Tour documented both the score and the withdrawal in its official October 23 report. The completed regular-season event on October 25 left Siem outside the crucial group of players who earn automatic full status.
Why did one week matter so much? For the 2026 Race to Dubai, only the top 100 at the end of the regular season are guaranteed full playing privileges for the following year. Positions 101 to 110 receive a more limited category; those lower down need another route. Siem's existing winner's exemption expires at the end of 2026. Before teeing off in Korea he ranked 133rd, with the Tour estimating that he needed at least a top-five finish. Its October 23 provisional projection put him around 123rd following his withdrawal. That number was a projection, not a verified final ranking.
The result carries particular weight given his history. Siem is 46 and owns six DP World Tour titles. After a long gap between victories, he won the 2023 Hero Indian Open. In 2024, after returning from hip surgery, he captured the Italian Open in a playoff against Tom McKibbin. His comeback became a reminder of the durability of experienced players, but the Tour's pre-event profile noted that Siem had yet to record a top-ten finish in 2026.
Losing full status is not the same as retiring. Siem can still seek a fresh category through Qualifying School, possible invitations or other eligibility routes. There is no verified announcement that he has already secured a new full card for 2027. His situation illustrates the unforgiving effect of the Tour's tighter top-100 threshold: a seasoned winner can still find his future schedule dependent on a new qualification campaign.
