Camiral Reopens 36 Holes After €7m Upgrade Ahead of the 2031 Ryder Cup
Both Stadium and Tour courses at Spain's Camiral are open again after a €7 million upgrade. New turf and maintenance investment are intended to cut water use by 33% as the resort prepares for the 2031 Ryder Cup.

Both Camiral courses are available to play again
Spain's Camiral resort, formerly PGA Catalunya, has brought both of its 18-hole layouts — the Stadium Course and Tour Course — back into play following a €7 million improvement programme. Industry publications reported the reopening on 19 October 2026, with the Spanish Association of Golf Courses (AECG) publishing a detailed account on 23 October. The works carry added significance because Camiral is the selected venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup.
What was upgraded
One of the project's most consequential changes is the move to warm-season Bermuda grass. The resort expects the turf programme to reduce water consumption by 33% while supporting consistent playing surfaces. This is an anticipated saving attributed to the improvements, not an independently verified measurement of water use after the reopening.
Both courses have received additional maintenance technology and equipment. The greenkeeping workforce has grown from 35 to 50, a substantial operational investment in conditioning the two layouts. Earlier stages of the programme also involved bunker and drainage improvements. The latest verified announcement does not provide hole-by-hole redesign details, so it would be misleading to suggest that every green or routing was rebuilt.
What visiting golfers need to know
The work was scheduled in phases: Tour Course from 1 June to 26 July and Stadium Course from 27 July to 27 September 2026. Camiral's own guest information says both courses are fully open from October 2026. Visitors can choose between the two layouts and book golf packages through the resort. Tee-time availability, prices and any day-specific restrictions should still be checked in the booking system before travelling.
On the hospitality side, Camiral has appointed Albert Guerrero to lead a new Golf Guest Relations function, supporting personalised and VIP services. The reopening announcement does not indicate that the courses have become members-only facilities.
Why it matters
Camiral is located at Carretera N-II, km 701, 17455 Caldes de Malavella, Girona, Catalonia, Spain, roughly an hour from Barcelona. The 550-hectare property includes 36 holes and the Hotel Camiral and LAVIDA hotels. For travelling golfers, the immediate benefit is the return of two playable options. For course managers, the headline is a major investment in irrigation efficiency, conditioning and staffing as the resort looks ahead to 2031, rather than an imminent Ryder Cup this season.
