Austria's women's amateur golf team recorded a notable international result at the 2026 Internacional de España Stroke Play Femenino. Johanna Janisch finished tied for third at Isla Canela Old Course in Ayamonte, Huelva, Spain, where the 54-hole competition took place 23–25 October. The Austrian Golf Federation (ÖGV) highlighted the performance on 29 October, and the official Spanish federation (RFEG) leaderboard confirms the figures.

A share of the lead after 36 holes

Janisch opened with consecutive 71s, each one under par on the par-72 course. Her 142 (−2) through two rounds put her joint first with Spain's Blanca Gómez-Balboa heading into the final 18 holes. At that point, a first-place finish was still within reach.

The last round proved tougher: a 75 (+3) took Janisch to 217 (+1) for the championship. That was enough for a three-way tie for third alongside Finland's Oona Kuronen and Gómez-Balboa. No third-place playoff is shown in the official record; the playoff concerned only the title.

A Swedish-Spanish playoff for the title

Sweden's Lova Askerdal finished with rounds of 72, 72 and 70, while Spain's Ángela Revuelta signed for 70, 73 and 71. Both reached 214 (−2). Askerdal then won on the first extra playoff hole, the course's opening hole, leaving Janisch three strokes behind the two finalists.

Austria had another finisher in Katharina Zeilinger. She made it through the second-round cut and ended the tournament at 237 (+21) after rounds of 83, 75 and 79, sharing 47th. Janisch therefore supplied the strongest Austrian result in the field.

Why it matters for Austrian golf

The championship was held in southern Spain, not Austria. It belongs in an Austrian country roundup because it reflects the form of an Austrian national-team amateur competing internationally. Janisch's two under-par rounds and 36-hole joint lead gave Austria a place in the title conversation, even though her closing 75 ultimately left her tied third.

This was individual stroke play: scores are strokes relative to the course par of 216 across 54 holes, not points in a league table. A final +1 corresponds to 217 strokes.
