Brdo finishes its first handicap-eligible tournament season
Golf Brdo near Kranj, Slovenia, has completed its first season of organised events whose scores are eligible to affect players’ handicap indexes. The Golf Association of Slovenia (Golf zveza Slovenije, GZS) reported the results on 1 November 2026, following the final event on 30 October.
The series followed the course's measurement, rating and approval for handicap-qualifying play in 2025. It added a regular competitive programme to an accessible nine-hole venue often associated with recreational golf and introductory play.
Five monthly events, 39 participants and 84 rounds
The series ran on the final Friday of each month from June through October: five tournaments in five months. According to GZS, 39 men and women from seven clubs participated, accounting for 84 rounds played across the season. Golfers from GK Eagle Brnik and Golf & Country Club Kranj, the two clubs associated with the course, featured most prominently.
Season standings counted each player's three best results, with separate women's and men's divisions. Within both divisions the organisers awarded gross and net honours. Gross scoring is calculated without a handicap adjustment; net scoring includes the relevant handicap allowance. Importantly, the federation's published totals are Stableford points (STB), not stroke totals, so it would be wrong to describe 86 or 113 as the number of shots played.
The first season's winners
Jaka Stenovec of GK Eagle won men's gross with 86 Stableford points, while fellow club member Marija Bobnar topped women's gross with 58. In the net standings, Marjan Jezeršek of GK Eagle took men's honours with 113, and Maja Božinovič, also of GK Eagle, won women's net with 112 points.
Course manager Tomaž Čadež and GK Eagle president and series initiator Stanislav Bobnar presented the season's awards. The organisers also drew two annual playing passes for 2027; the recipients were Suzana Valjavec and Daša Gantar. These passes were awarded in a draw rather than as additional tournament titles.
Why a local nine-hole course matters
Brdo is a nine-hole golf course within the historic Brdo estate near Kranj. An officially rated layout with handicap-eligible events offers local players a practical way to record qualifying competitive rounds without travelling to a major championship venue.
The numbers should be read carefully: 39 is the total number of participants across the season, not the field size for each event. Nevertheless, five completed tournaments, seven represented clubs and an official final classification are tangible signs of a new local competition programme. The federation noted the 2027 pass prizes but did not confirm a full 2027 tournament schedule in this report.
