25 October 2026 became a doubly memorable date for Japanese professional Yoshinori Fujimoto. On the day he turned 37, he won the 2026 Fortinet Players Cup at Narita Hills Country Club in Chiba, completing a wire-to-wire victory at 15-under-par 269. His four-shot margin made the final result look comfortable, but the concluding round demanded both an aggressive start and patient control under pressure.

Four opening birdies transform the final round

Fujimoto entered Sunday holding a one-shot lead. He immediately holed a birdie chance at the first and added three more consecutive birdies on holes two through four. That sequence rapidly stretched the margin to three strokes. Another lengthy birdie putt dropped at the par-three eighth, bringing his front-nine score to five under par.

Wind increased on the back nine, and Kosuke Sunagawa temporarily cut the gap to one shot. Fujimoto nevertheless produced the kind of disciplined finishing golf that leading from the front requires. A key par save at the 15th followed a tricky lie in the rough and a putt of just under two metres. He maintained his touch for distance at the 17th, found the green from the right bunker at the last and completed a bogey-free 66, five under par.

A four-way tie for second

The Japan Golf Tour Organization's official leaderboard lists Fujimoto's rounds as 66–68–69–66, totalling 269 (−15). Kosei Takeyama, Shugo Imahira, Ryosuke Kinoshita and Kosuke Sunagawa finished tied for second on 273 (−11). Takeyama delivered an exceptional Sunday 63 (−8), the best closing score among the four runners-up, but it was not enough to catch Fujimoto.

The result also featured a strong Korean presence. South Korea's Young-Han Song shared 11th position at 276 (−8) after a final-round 71, according to the verified JGTO scoring record. His placing demonstrates the regional mix of competitors on Japan's men's professional circuit.

A second win in one season—after a 13-year drought

The trophy is Fujimoto's fourth career JGTO victory and his second of 2026, following the Kansai Open in May. That earlier result ended a 13-year wait for a title. The Fortinet win therefore brings a further milestone: the first two-win season of his professional JGTO career. Completing it on his 37th birthday only sharpened the occasion.

The event carried a ¥150 million total purse and a ¥30 million winner's prize, as confirmed by JGTO. Beyond the prize money, the sporting significance lies in Fujimoto's consistency: after years without a win, he has secured two victories in a single season and withstood the pressure of being in front from the opening day.
