A planning decision with major implications for local golf

On 15 October 2026, the Village Board in Woodridge, Illinois, approved a mixed-use redevelopment proposal for the 34.17-acre Zigfield Troy Golf Course property at 1535 West 75th Street, Woodridge, IL 60517. The applicant is Kensington Woodridge, LLC.

For golfers in Chicago's western suburbs, the decision matters because Zigfield Troy has long offered a public-access nine-hole, par-3 layout (par 27). Short courses like this play an important role in the game: newcomers can learn without committing to a full-length round, while experienced players get a convenient place to practise accuracy and their short game. Under the approved land-use proposal, the regular par-3 golf-course land would be converted to other uses.

The development plan in detail

According to the Village's published account of the approval, the commercial portion covers 10 acres and seven outlots. Named planned occupants include a Sprouts Farmers Market grocery store, Chase Bank and a 7 Brew drive-through coffee business. A roughly 24-acre residential section is planned for 96 age-restricted duplex units intended for the 55-plus market and associated with Pulte.

A notable exception is Lost Mountain Mini Golf, which the approved proposal retains and incorporates. That is not the same as keeping the nine-hole par-3 course: the two facilities serve different experiences. The future of the golf driving range has not been separately confirmed in the official approval update.

From public consultation to approval

Woodridge first hosted a concept discussion on 13 November 2025, when no vote was taken. A non-binding memorandum of understanding followed on 21 May 2026; detailed documents were submitted on 29 June. The Plan Commission heard public views on 28 September and continued its review on 5 October. The Village Board approved the developer's proposal on 15 October 2026.

That chronology distinguishes this story from a speculative proposal: a municipal approval has now occurred. It does not, however, confirm a construction start date or an operational closure.

Is the golf course still available to play?

No definitive closing date has been announced. The Village stresses that Zigfield Troy is privately owned by the Troy family. The local authority neither operates the course nor decides when it stays open or closes; that choice belongs to its owners. Public information also does not establish the dates when construction would begin or finish.

As of 26 October 2026, golfers should therefore verify tee-time availability and range operations directly with the club rather than assuming the course is already closed or will remain open through a particular date. The official Village project page is the best public record for further planning announcements.
