Conwy Golf Club in North Wales has temporarily closed its course and all facilities following a serious fire at its clubhouse on the evening of 31 October 2026. In a statement issued on 1 November and reported by local and golf-industry publications, the club confirmed significant damage to the building. It said nobody was injured.
What happened
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called at approximately 9:21 p.m. local time on 31 October. Crews from several stations attended and continued their work the following day. Photographs published after the incident show extensive damage to the clubhouse roof. The cause has not been established; an investigation is under way.
Course access and reopening
The club confirmed that its golf course, clubhouse and other facilities are closed on safety grounds. Members, visitors and the public have been asked not to enter the grounds until emergency services declare the site safe. This is a temporary closure of an established golf facility, not an announcement that the golf course is permanently closing. The club has not announced a reopening date or a detailed rebuilding timetable.
Why this matters
Founded in 1890, Conwy is a historic coastal links club beside the Conwy estuary. It hosted the 2021 Curtis Cup. The club suffered a previous major clubhouse fire in 1933. Its current clubhouse opened in 1996, and the extent of the rebuilding work now required has yet to be assessed.
Wales Golf has expressed support for the club's members, employees and wider community. Golfers planning a visit should wait for an official update confirming when access will be permitted again.
