Two champions at Uruguay's Copa de Oro

Matías Angenscheidt and Jimena Marqués claimed the headline scratch titles at the 34th Copa de Oro, held at Club de Golf del Uruguay (CGU) in Montevideo. Uruguayan media reported the results between 19 and 22 October 2026. The tournament opened the Asociación Uruguaya de Golf (AUG) 2026/27 national amateur ranking season and counted towards the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).

Angenscheidt holds on over 54 holes

The men's scratch champion posted 75, 74 and 71 for 220 strokes over 54 holes. Scratch is scored on actual strokes, without handicap adjustments. Angenscheidt entered the final round in front and protected his lead.

Pablo Juan Carrere finished second on 223 (76, 76, 71), three strokes back. Mateo Quiroga took third on 224 (78, 78, 68). Quiroga's final-round 68 was the lowest closing round among the three leading finishers, but it did not erase the deficit accumulated earlier in the competition.

Marqués wins women's scratch

Jimena Marqués claimed the main women's title on 151 strokes, with reported rounds of 74 and 77. Those figures describe the two reported women's rounds and should not be compared directly with the men's 54-hole total. Sources agree on the champion and winning score, but disagree over some other women's placings. We therefore do not assert an unresolved runner-up order.

Keep gross and net results separate

Angenscheidt also won the men's first handicap category with 139 net strokes, while Carlos Aliseris was runner-up on 142 net. These are handicap-adjusted scores in a separate classification, not an amendment to Angenscheidt's 220 gross strokes in the 54-hole scratch tournament.

Why this matters to Uruguay

The Copa de Oro is an established domestic amateur event with international ranking recognition. WAGR results can be relevant to a player's opportunities in future amateur events, including the wider pathway to the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC). A Copa de Oro victory does not automatically guarantee LAAC entry, which depends on its specific qualification and ranking criteria.

The results were cross-checked with Búsqueda (22 October), El País / Ovación (22 October) and Buen Golf Tour (19 October). The accompanying genuine photograph is an archival 2018 view of the CGU course, not a photograph of the 2026 competition.
