La Barra wins round three as the regional title race heads to November
The third round of the 2026 Copa Challenge Golf Classic Interclubes Punta del Este took place on 24 October 2026 at La Barra Golf Club, near Punta del Este in Uruguay's Maldonado department. The regional series brings together four clubs — La Barra Golf Club, Las Piedras Golf Club, Cantegril Country Club and Club del Lago Golf — each hosting a stage of the four-round competition.
La Barra won on home turf with a team aggregate of 411 strokes, earning 100 ranking points for the round. Its season tally now stands at 270 points, giving it the lead heading into November's deciding stage. The numbers refer to different measures: the 411 strokes are a combined team scoring figure, while 270 represents season-ranking points, not any player's individual stroke total.
Third-round results and overall standings
| Club | Team aggregate (strokes) | Round points | Season points |
|---|---|---|---|
| La Barra Golf Club | 411 | 100 | 270 |
| Las Piedras Golf Club | 423 | 80 | 220 |
| Cantegril Country Club | 432 | 70 | 240 |
| Club del Lago Golf | 442 | 60 | 200 |
The table is ordered by the 24 October round results. In the overall standings, Cantegril remains La Barra's closest challenger, with 240 points; Las Piedras has 220.
The round was played over 18 holes in a four-ball best-ball format, described locally as fourball a la americana, with 85% of handicap applied. In four-ball, both partners play their own balls, and the better score on each hole counts for the partnership. This is distinct from foursomes, in which partners alternate strokes with a single ball. Because handicap adjustments applied, the club aggregates must not be presented as scratch scores or converted into totals relative to par without full scoring details.
Parallel Confraternidad pairs competition
La Barra also hosted a Copa Confraternidad competition with separate pairs divisions. Antonio Miranda and Hubert O’Farrell took men's category A, for partners whose combined handicap indexes were no higher than 30.0, with 67 strokes. Pablo Anchordoqui and his son Juano Anchordoqui won category B, for combined indexes starting at 30.1, with 65. Inés Leborgne and Carolina Falkenhagen claimed the women's division with 66.
Accuracy prizes were awarded on the par-3 fourth hole: Rosario Solans finished 2.97 metres from the flag, and Pablo Anchordoqui 3.80 metres away. These are nearest-the-pin results, not hole-in-ones; the report does not claim that either tee shot was holed.
The final: 28 November at Club del Lago
The fourth and final round is scheduled for 28 November 2026 at Club del Lago Golf. La Barra enters with a 30-point advantage over Cantegril. If the same 100/80/70/60 allocation applies in the final, a Cantegril victory combined with a fourth-place La Barra finish would reverse the standings, 340 to 330. That is a conditional calculation from the published points, not a ruling on any unverified tie-break or bonus-point provisions.
The broader value of the Copa Challenge lies in its grassroots structure: four eastern Uruguayan courses, a handicap-adjusted team competition, a women's division and a calendar that connects club golfers across the Punta del Este region.
