Eighteen new holes, in two different nine-hole courses

The Villages, the large residential golf community in Florida, has scheduled October 30, 2026 as the opening date for two new nine-hole executive courses, The Lakes and Timberland. Both lie in the Eastport area near Long Prairie. Their combined 18 holes should not be mistaken for one championship par-72 course: each is a distinct, shorter layout with a different style of play.

The distinction between a schedule and a completed event matters. Local reporting identifies October 30 as the intended opening day, and The Villages' own presentation says that tee-time requests began October 23. At the time of writing, there is no separate verified report that the first groups have already completed their rounds on October 30. Accordingly, this is a confirmed opening plan, not a claim that play has already taken place.

The Lakes: water and measured approaches

In its official video introduction, The Villages describes The Lakes as a nine-hole course shaped around natural water features and varied terrain. The layout is designed to reward short-game precision, thoughtful iron and wedge selection, and careful distance control. Choosing the right landing area around water can matter more than simply maximizing carry.

The operator presents The Lakes as a pleasant option for a relaxed round; that is a description of its character, not a guarantee that every hole will be easy for beginners.

Timberland: trees, bunkers and more club choices

Timberland has a contrasting identity. The operator highlights tall oaks, rolling ground, strategically placed bunkers and some notably longer holes. Hole six is specifically described as an opportunity to have a driver ready, an unusual emphasis compared with very short executive layouts.

This gives golfers a meaningful choice. Timberland puts more weight on line selection from the tee and club selection over varied terrain. The Lakes creates different decisions around water and approaches to the green. Neither course can be judged solely by the number of holes.

Booking and access: what is actually known?

The Villages says residents were able to request tee times from October 23 through the community's booking system. That should not be confused with unrestricted walk-in public access. Guest eligibility, any applicable fees and the exact availability of starting times should be checked with the operator.

For directions, the official course video points players to Lolley Court, accessed via Busche Boulevard from the Eastport area. These concrete details — an identified location, two separate designs and a booking process — make the planned opening more substantial than a conceptual course announcement.

For the record, October 30 is the advertised opening date, not independently verified evidence that a ceremonial opening or first round has already occurred.
