The PGA Tour has introduced six new rule changes to its players, set to take effect in 2026. These changes aim to enhance the game and address contentious issues that have arisen over recent seasons.
The first change involves the use of drones for ball observation. Players will now be able to use drones to avoid disputes over lost balls in the rough or other hard-to-reach areas. This innovation should reduce search time and speed up play.
The second change is related to putting on the green. Players will now be able to use special markers to accurately determine the putting line, improving precision and speed of play.
The third change concerns penalty strokes. If a ball lands in water, players will be able to choose the next shot location within two club lengths from the point of entry, reducing penalty strokes and making the game fairer.
The fourth change is about improving safety on the course. Players will be allowed to wear protective eyewear in strong sunlight or wind conditions to prevent injuries and enhance comfort during play.
The fifth change involves the use of new technology. Players can use special apps on their smartphones to analyze their swing and improve technique. This will allow players to adapt more quickly to changing conditions on the course.
The sixth and final change involves new standards for wedges. Players will now be able to use wedges with adjustable loft, allowing better control over shot height and distance.
These changes were prompted by the need to adapt the game to modern conditions and enhance the excitement of tournaments. Experts believe the new rules will make the game more dynamic and engaging for both players and spectators.
