The 2026 Charles Schwab Cup playoffs reached a significant cut-off after the Stifel Charity Classic ended in St. Louis on October 25. The top 54 players in the updated standings earned the right to compete at the next event — but the preliminary field for the Simmons Bank Championship contains just 51 names. Eligibility and actually entering a tournament are not the same thing.

According to Golf News Net's October 25 field report, three eligible players are not committed to the Little Rock event: Bernhard Langer, Ángel Cabrera and Matt Gogel. No verified reason for each absence is established by the field report, so it would be premature to attribute these omissions to injury, retirement or a definitive withdrawal. The entry list should be checked again against the PGA TOUR Champions' official field before play begins.

The Simmons Bank Championship is scheduled for October 30–November 1 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock, Arkansas. The organizers list October 26 as the beginning of tournament week, not the first competitive round. The purse is $2.3 million. The second of three playoff events will reduce the contenders from a top-54 eligibility pool to the top 36, who qualify for the November 12–15 Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix.

The late moves that shaped the cut line were dramatic. Henrik Stenson tied for third at Stifel and climbed from 56th to 41st in the Cup standings. Tim Petrovic advanced from 60th to 53rd. Their moves pushed J.J. Henry and Chad Campbell out of the qualifying group. The PGA TOUR reports that Campbell missed the cut-off by the equivalent of only $402 after bogeying three of his last five holes.

Meanwhile, Rory Sabbatini's remarkable closing 62 and 14-under victory in St. Louis lifted him from 23rd to seventh in the season-long race. Stewart Cink remains first, followed by Zach Johnson and Steven Alker. With double points on offer in the playoffs, the standings can still shift substantially.

The key distinction before Little Rock is between 54 players entitled to start and 51 players currently listed as entrants. A qualifying ranking position alone does not guarantee a tee time.
