A final-round climb delivers European silver
Warrenpoint Golf Club of County Down, Northern Ireland, finished runner-up at the 2026 European Men's Club Trophy. The continental championship for national club champions took place 22–24 October on the Châteaux course at Cabot Bordeaux, in Le Pian-Médoc near Bordeaux, France. This was an achievement by a Northern Irish club abroad, not a tournament staged in Northern Ireland.
The three Warrenpoint representatives — Stephen Coulter, Colm Campbell and Paul Reavey — finished with a 428-stroke team total, two over par. Fourth with one round remaining, the club combined for 140 (−2) on the closing day, moving up two places to claim the silver medals.
How the team score actually works
The European Men's Club Trophy is a stroke-play championship. Each club fields three golfers, but only the best two scores from each day count toward its team total. The 428-stroke figure therefore represents six counting scores across three rounds, not the sum of all nine individual cards, and it is not a match-play result.
In round one, Coulter shot 70 (−1) and Campbell recorded 75 (+4), giving Warrenpoint 145 (+3). On day two, Campbell's 71 and Reavey's 72 contributed 143 (+1). With 288 (+4) after 36 holes, Warrenpoint was fourth but only a stroke from second place. The final 140 (−2) brought its total to 145 + 143 + 140 = 428 (+2).
Conditions added to the challenge: the tournament was hit by heavy showers, and strong winds were especially disruptive in the second round. Warrenpoint's best team round came precisely when the medals were being decided.
Three players finish in the individual top five
Stephen Coulter placed fourth individually at 215 strokes (+2). Colm Campbell and Paul Reavey tied for fifth at 217 (+4) apiece. All three contributed counting rounds to the team total, showing why this result was a collective achievement rather than a one-player rescue.
Denmark's Smørum Golfklub took the title on 419 (−7), nine strokes ahead of Warrenpoint. Smørum successfully defended its crown, winning a third European club title in four years. Its Daniel Toft claimed the individual title at −3. Eindhovensche Golf of the Netherlands took bronze on 433 (+7), five shots behind Warrenpoint.
Why County Down's result matters
Warrenpoint is located in County Down, Northern Ireland, and operates within the all-island Golf Ireland structure. EGA lists the club under the Irish entry; that does not change the club's Northern Irish location, nor the fact that this year's European competition was played in France.
This European medal follows a notable domestic breakthrough. In August 2026 Warrenpoint won the AIG Men's Senior Cup for the first time since 2008, re-establishing itself among Ireland's leading club teams. The Bordeaux silver adds an international result to that national success.
The takeaway: Warrenpoint did not catch the Danish winners, but a two-under-par final team round carried it from fourth to second. With all three players in the individual top five, the runners-up produced a strong, verifiable result for Northern Irish club golf beyond the professional-tour headlines.
