AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND — 30 October 2026. Auckland Golf's official tournament programme places the men's and women's Auckland Provincial Match Play Championship qualifying rounds at Windross Farm Golf Club in Ardmore, south-east of central Auckland, on Friday. The format puts two different disciplines to the test: each field first completes 36 holes of stroke play, with only its top 16 qualifiers advancing to the knockout phase.
Qualifying scores do not decide the titles
Friday's 36-hole aggregate determines who earns a place in the men's and women's match-play brackets. Under the published competition terms, the round of 16 and quarter-finals take place on 31 October, followed by the semi-finals and finals on 1 November. Once match play begins, competitors win or lose individual holes against an opponent; the lowest cumulative stroke total from qualifying does not itself win a championship.
Entry rules and playing distances
The event is open to amateurs belonging to clubs affiliated with Golf New Zealand, as well as full members of recognised overseas clubs. Entrants younger than 13 require special dispensation. The published championship tees are black for men (6,035 metres) and blue for women (5,674 metres). A tie for the leading qualifying score is settled by sudden-death play-off, while ties affecting the last qualifying positions are resolved by the organisers' specified countback procedure. No player should yet be described as a confirmed match-play winner on the basis of the schedule alone.
A demanding Auckland venue
Windross Farm is an inland, links-inspired championship course set on 60 hectares of Auckland countryside. Its mix of managed turf, open land and undulating ground gives the provincial championship a distinctive setting. The transition from stroke play to head-to-head matches also changes tactical decisions: protecting an aggregate score matters during qualifying, but the status of a particular hole and the opponent's position become central during the knockout matches. Separate men's and women's titles provide two meaningful competitions for the region's amateur players.
One scheduling discrepancy to note
The detailed tournament conditions identify 1 November for the final matches; Auckland Golf's broader events list also displays additional entries dated 7 November. That discrepancy is not evidence of a confirmed postponement. Spectators and players should verify any amendments and start times directly with the organiser. Confirmed qualifying results and winners were not available for this report.
