Around 180 young golfers from across Mexico took part in the 2026 Mazatlán Junior Classic, held from 23–25 October at El Cid Golf & Country Club in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. Iñigo Bordás and Ivanna Asís Salazar were among the winners of separate age divisions. They should not be presented as co-winners of one overall championship: the tournament featured several categories.
Regional juniors make the podium
On 26 October, the Asociación de Golf del Sur (GOLFSUR) reported a first-place finish in his division for Iñigo Bordás. Mía Bárbara Blake and Luis Máximo Díaz Barriga each placed second in their respective groups, while Fernanda Gutiérrez took third. Alexa Aviña and Rebeca Aguirre finished fourth and fifth in their own divisions. Those positions are division-specific, not a consolidated leaderboard across different age groups.
Separately, El Tiempo Monclova reported on 29 October that Ivanna Asís Salazar, representing Club de Golf El Socorro, won her category, while her brother Moisés Asís Salazar placed ninth. Neither report specifies a complete verified hole-by-hole scorecard or all the precise divisions for these players. We therefore do not assign invented totals, scores relative to par or categories.
Competition format and location
The Mexican Junior Golf Association (MJGA) staged the event in coordination with the Federación Mexicana de Golf (FMG). The federation lists the event for 22–25 October, with 22 October as the official practice day and competitive rounds from 23 to 25 October. Local outlet Los Noticieristas estimated roughly 180 junior entrants, arriving from Guadalajara, Querétaro, Sonora, Baja California, Veracruz, Puebla, Mexico City and elsewhere.
The MJGA conditions specify stroke play. The youngest divisions, ages seven-and-under and eight-to-nine, were scheduled for 27 holes over three days (nine per day). Golfers aged 10–18 were scheduled for 54 holes (18 per day), with the possibility of a cut after 36 holes depending on field size. The youngest played the Castilla nine; the older divisions used the Moro and Marina nines.
A national tournament with a regional footprint
Junior events outside the largest cities offer emerging golfers a chance to test their games against peers from different clubs and regions. Coverage from GOLFSUR and El Socorro illustrates why these competitions also matter locally: even when scores do not make international headlines, a podium finish can mark an important step in a young golfer's development.
