Australia: Marangaroo public course appoints contractor for A$16m redevelopment

On 22 October, the City of Wanneroo confirmed Hoskins Contracting for a A$16 million upgrade of Marangaroo in Western Australia. A two-level, 44-bay covered driving range is planned, with completion targeted for late 2027, not yet achieved.

Wanneroo, Western Australia. On 22 October 2026, the City of Wanneroo announced that it had awarded the main construction contract for improvements at Marangaroo Public Golf Course, in Perth’s northern suburbs, to Hoskins Contracting Pty Ltd. The municipal announcement records a procurement milestone on a project where preliminary work had already begun. It does not report the opening of a finished golf facility.

A public-access practice facility, rather than a new golf course

The City’s project overview estimates Marangaroo’s redevelopment at A$16 million. Its central addition will be a two-storey, covered driving range with 44 hitting bays and modern practice technology. The stated package also includes a simulator and teaching room, a new pro shop, changing rooms, expanded hospitality areas and additional parking. The municipality intends to retain and repurpose the existing clubhouse building rather than simply replace everything on the site.

The proposal is designed to broaden how the public uses the venue. Covered bays should give instructors and recreational golfers more options when weather conditions are less comfortable. A simulator and dedicated teaching space could support structured lessons. These are intended functions, however, not services that are already operating.

What is confirmed on the timeline?

According to Wanneroo, initial site work started in August 2026. The award of the construction contract was made public on 22 October. In that release, the municipality said construction was scheduled to finish in late 2027. The general project dashboard is more cautious and still lists final completion as to be confirmed. There is therefore no verified exact public opening date.

Both Marangaroo and the city’s other public course, Carramar, are expected to remain open during construction, although particular areas may close temporarily. Golfers should check with the operator for current access rather than assume that every bay or part of the course will remain available throughout.

The separate Carramar investment

The municipal strategy covers two courses and the figures must not be combined as though they described one redevelopment. Carramar has a separate A$10 million estimated project, including plans for a 33-bay covered, floodlit range and clubhouse improvements. Marangaroo’s 44-bay proposal and A$16 million estimate are distinct from those Carramar works.

Both sites are owned by the City of Wanneroo and managed on its behalf by Belgravia Leisure. The redevelopment fits into the City’s Public Golf Course Strategic Plan 2024–2039, with a stated emphasis on beginners, women, younger people, families and social golfers alongside existing players. Marangaroo opened in 1988, giving the programme a substantial community-access dimension.

The City says funding is expected to involve a mix of reserves and borrowing, subject to budget adoption. Confirmed documentation does not set final practice prices, name a particular technology supplier, or guarantee a completion date.

The milestone is the appointment of a contractor and the progress of site preparation. The 44-bay range remains a planned facility, not one that has already opened.
