The King & Prince targets November reopening as Beau Welling’s redesigned course turns private

The King & Prince on Georgia’s St. Simons Island expects to welcome members back in November 2026 after a $7m course overhaul. A new Summit Golf Brands agreement covers the golf shop, while access shifts to private membership.

The King & Prince Golf and Beach Club on St. Simons Island, Georgia, has identified November 2026 as the anticipated month for members to return to its redesigned course. The timeline was reiterated in an October 26 joint announcement with Summit Golf Brands, which is partnering with the club on the new golf shop. No firm opening date has been confirmed, and the course remains closed during the transformation.

A coastal layout redesigned

Beau Welling Design is leading a comprehensive renovation of the 18-hole, par-72 layout. The club previously described a $7 million investment in its course and practice facilities. The underlying routing is being retained, but green complexes, fairway bunkers, teeing areas and practice spaces are being rebuilt or improved.

The course occupies an unusually varied coastal setting, beginning beneath mature live oaks before reaching salt marsh and tidal-water views. The design work seeks to make more of that landscape, restore strategic choices and encourage different approaches to the greens. On the par-five third, for example, the green site has been moved back by 17 yards and recontoured to place a greater premium on thoughtful shot placement. Plans also encompass upgraded driving-range, short-game and putting facilities.

A newly designed golf shop

The fresh development announced October 26 is an exclusive retail partnership between the club and Summit Golf Brands, whose labels include B. Draddy, Fairway & Greene and Zero Restriction. The company will help shape the golf shop’s layout and fixtures, curate merchandise across its brands and develop selected products specifically for the property.

The partners expect the shop fit-out to be completed in November. The arrangement also extends to staff apparel, selected club events and reopening activities. This is part of the wider clubhouse transformation overseen by owner South Street Partners together with Northview Hotels & Resorts; it should not be read as confirmation that every element of construction has already finished.

Membership access replaces public play

The reopening has a major practical implication: The King & Prince is transitioning from a course formerly available to resort visitors and the wider public to a fully private membership club. November play is consequently being described as a return for members, rather than a general reopening of public tee-time bookings.

The golf club is located at 100 Tabbystone, St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522, United States. It is separate from the beachfront King and Prince resort property at 201 Arnold Road.

What remains to be confirmed

Neither the precise first tee time nor a definitive completion date has been published. The supported description is therefore planned reopening in November 2026, not a completed opening. The new timeline and retail partnership come from the parties’ October 26 release; renovation details were checked against the club’s previous official project statement.
