Why LIV 2.0 no longer appealed to Rahm
At a press conference ahead of the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship on 3 November 2026, Jon Rahm gave a fuller explanation of his decision not to join the proposed next version of LIV Golf. His departure from LIV was announced in October; the new information concerns the direction of LIV Golf 2.0 and what conditions might persuade him to return to the PGA TOUR.
Rahm described his three LIV seasons as a positive experience, highlighting both his individual results and achievements in team competition. His concern was the proposed future format, which he said still contained too many unknowns. In particular, he felt the project was moving away from team golf, the feature that had distinguished LIV from established professional tours. He summarised his view of the changes: “I wasn't thrilled with the changes.”
That is Rahm's assessment of a proposal, not confirmation that a final LIV 2.0 schedule or competition structure has been approved. His decision should not be presented as a dispute over one payment, one contract term or the number of events alone.
Would he take Brooks Koepka's return terms?
Journalists also asked about the Returning Member Program, which allowed Brooks Koepka to return to the PGA TOUR early in 2026 under restrictions. Rahm indicated that, if offered precisely the same terms and penalties, he would probably accept them. However, he stressed that he doubts an identical offer would be made.
Crucially, as of 3 November he had not spoken to the PGA TOUR about a potential return in 2027. His answer is therefore neither a reinstatement announcement nor confirmation that an eligibility decision has been made.
Sky Sports reports that Koepka's conditions included a $5 million charitable contribution and five years without PGA TOUR equity eligibility. They describe Koepka's arrangement, not penalties already imposed on Rahm.
DP World Tour remains a viable alternative
Until his American options become clear, Rahm is considering a 2027 season on the DP World Tour. He suggested that even if he had to serve a one-year PGA TOUR suspension, a full season on the European circuit would still provide meaningful competition. He would also like to continue playing selected European events if an earlier return to the United States became possible.
Rahm is preparing for the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship at Yas Links, scheduled for 5–8 November 2026 as the first event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs. Tournament play had not started when he made the comments.
The fresh story is his reasoning and the conditional options he outlined — not another LIV departure or a completed PGA TOUR deal.
