Three Icelandic players miss the final qualifying hurdle
The 2026 DP World Tour Qualifying School Second Stage ended on 1 November in Spain. Iceland's three players were competing on Spanish courses, not in Iceland: Sigurður Arnar Garðarsson at Fontanals Golf Club near Girona, and Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson and Ragnar Már Garðarsson at Isla Canela Links near Huelva. None progressed to Final Stage.
Icelandic results after 72 holes
| Player | Course in Spain | Total | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sigurður Arnar Garðarsson | Fontanals, Girona | −4 | T33 |
| Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson | Isla Canela, Huelva | −8 | T34 |
| Ragnar Már Garðarsson | Isla Canela, Huelva | +3 | T71 |
Each event consisted of 72 holes of stroke play, with the top 20 at each of Fontanals and Isla Canela qualifying. Both Sigurður and Dagbjartur finished four strokes outside their respective venue's qualifying mark. That is a four-stroke scoring deficit, not a four-place ranking deficit.
Sigurður's strong third round was not enough
Sigurður Arnar Garðarsson entered the final round 15th after a brilliant seven-under-par third round. He made seven birdies over his last 14 holes, including five in the last five holes. A closing three-over-par round, however, left him at four under par overall, tied for 33rd and four strokes short of the qualifying score.
Dagbjartur and Ragnar at Isla Canela
Reigning Icelandic champion Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson made three birdies and two bogeys in a closing one-under-par round. His eight-under-par total was good for only a tie for 34th, again four shots outside the required score, although at a different venue.
Ragnar Már Garðarsson had opened with four under par, but could not sustain his early momentum. A level-par final round left him three over par overall, tied for 71st.
Final Stage places are not tour cards
Qualifying from Second Stage means earning a place in Final Stage, not receiving a DP World Tour card outright. The final event is scheduled for 6–11 November 2026 at INFINITUM in Tarragona. According to the official DP World Tour criteria, the leading 15 players and ties in Final Stage will earn DP World Tour playing opportunities and full HotelPlanner Tour status for 2027.
Iceland's national federation, Golfsamband Íslands (GSÍ), had highlighted the hopes of Sigurður and Dagbjartur before the deciding day. Icelandic outlet Kylfingur notes that Haraldur Franklín Magnús, in 2023, was the last Icelandic golfer to reach this Q-School Final Stage. The result does not signify the end of the three players' careers: it ends their 2026 Second Stage qualifying campaigns.
