A milestone tournament and an estimated 30,000 attendances

The 2026 Genesis Championship, staged 22–25 October at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, South Korea, attracted approximately 30,000 spectator attendances over four days, according to an official Genesis post-event release dated 26 October. This is the organiser's approximate cumulative figure, not a verified count of 30,000 different individuals or an independently audited attendance total.

This was the event's tenth edition. Launched in 2017, it has been jointly sanctioned by the KPGA Tour and DP World Tour since 2024. Genesis identifies its US$4 million purse as the largest on the KPGA Tour. The competition also served as the regular-season finale for golfers trying to secure DP World Tour playing rights and qualify for the upcoming play-offs. Those sporting stakes help explain why this event has significance beyond a domestic Korean golf tournament.

A verified winner, and the numbers behind the trophy

Japan's Yuto Katsuragawa won at 13-under-par 271. He followed a course-record-equalling 63 on Saturday with an even-par 71 on Sunday, beating France's Frédéric Lacroix and Martin Couvra, both 11 under (273), by two shots. The result is consistent across the official Genesis statement and DP World Tour's tournament reporting.

Katsuragawa earned US$680,000 in prize money and a Genesis GV80 Hybrid as an additional winner's prize. Genesis also says the win earned him two-year playing privileges on both the KPGA Tour and DP World Tour. This was therefore a result with consequences for his international schedule, not simply a ceremonial anniversary victory.

Transport and tournament operations in the spotlight

Genesis detailed the support provided to the field and caddies. The organiser supplied 67 vehicles, including GV80 Coupés, G90s and electrified GV70 models. It also deployed three hydrogen-electric buses for transport in a programme associated with DP World Tour's Green Drive initiative.

These are specific, verifiable operational measures, but no comparable emissions inventory accompanied the release. The presence of hydrogen buses should not be mistaken for a quantified claim about the tournament's overall carbon footprint. Genesis also highlighted hospitality arrangements for players and caddies.

The tenth edition thus produced three concrete markers: roughly 30,000 cumulative spectator attendances, a $4 million purse, and Katsuragawa's 13-under winning total. Future editions can be assessed against those figures, while the attendance total should remain clearly attributed to the organiser.
