Junior golfers in Costa Rica have a newly announced qualification route into the 2027 FCG Callaway World Junior Golf Championship. On 23 October 2026, Future Champions Golf (FCG) confirmed a partnership with the Costa Rica Golf Federation to establish a national four-event qualifying series. The central published condition is straightforward: the top two players in each age division across the series will earn qualifying places.
What the announcement actually confirms
The four tournaments are scheduled to take place between January and April 2027. The arrangement creates a domestic route into FCG's international junior championship. Crucially, the announcement describes two places per age division through the series. It does not say that two places will be awarded at each of the four individual events; readers should not multiply the number of spots without a further regulation from the organisers.
Other operational questions remain open. The official release does not provide exact competition dates, courses, the list of age divisions, an overall points formula, tie-break procedures or registration instructions. FCG says those details will be announced by the Costa Rica Golf Federation. Families should therefore treat any unofficial date or qualification table as unconfirmed until the federation releases the competition documents.
Why the new route matters
For aspiring junior players based in Costa Rica, a local qualifying series may make an international championship pathway more accessible. A four-event structure also gives young golfers a reason to plan a competitive calendar rather than regard selection as a single isolated opportunity. That does not, however, prove how individual results will be combined: the calculation method is still to come.
The same agreement introduces the federation to Campus, a platform for player profiles, college research and contact with US collegiate golf programmes. It is part of the wider development partnership, not an extra eligibility test for the championship under the terms published so far.
Dates, status and limits of the decision
The announcement date is 23 October 2026, and the qualifying events are planned for January–April 2027. No separate formal effective date is stated. These are event-specific junior championship qualification arrangements, not changes to the R&A/USGA Rules of Golf, the World Handicap System or amateur-status rules.
FCG reports that the 2026 world championship attracted more than 750 junior golfers from 42 countries. Its ambition for 2027 is 900 players from over 50 countries; this is a target, not a final entry figure.
