Wyndham Clark leads the BMW Championship after 36 holes at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis. The American opened his week with consecutive rounds of 64 and reached 12 under par, taking a one-shot lead into Saturday’s third round on August 22.
Gary Woodland is one shot behind Clark, while J.J. Spaun trails by two. Rory McIlroy remains within reach at seven under, and Justin Thomas is also in contention at six under. With several leading players separated by only a few strokes, Saturday’s round can significantly reshape the leaderboard before the final round.
The day is particularly important for Woodland because he is among the bubble players trying to secure a place in next week’s Tour Championship. Only the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings after the BMW Championship advance to the season-ending event, so Woodland needs another strong performance to remain in the field.
“My focus right now is one day at a time,” Woodland said Friday. “I don’t have that luxury to look ahead. I got to focus on making sure I take care of myself right now.
