Wyndham Clark will begin the final round of the BMW Championship as the outright leader. After 54 holes at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, the American is 17 under par and five shots ahead of Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay. Clark and McIlroy will play in the final group at 1:50 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 23.
Clark, a two-time U.S. Open winner, started Saturday with the lead and extended it throughout the third round. He shot a 65 at Bellerive Country Club to reach 17 under for the tournament. McIlroy and Cantlay are tied for second at 12 under after 54 holes.

The BMW Championship is also about more than the trophy in St. Louis. When Sunday’s final round concludes, the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will earn places in the following week’s Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. The Tour Championship winner will receive $10 million, making the battle around the top-30 cutoff another major storyline on Sunday.

Clark’s five-shot cushion gives him a commanding position over the final 18 holes, but the tournament is not decided. McIlroy and Cantlay will be paired together in the penultimate group, while Gotterup, Woodland and Morikawa remain close enough to make the finish competitive if Clark falters. At the same time, players near the FedEx Cup top-30 line will be fighting for a place at East Lake.
