What is being proposed
In early November 2026, Australia's Yaralla Sports Club and developer Tipalea Partners outlined a proposal to turn the existing Gladstone Golf Club site in Kin Kora, Gladstone, Queensland, into the Kin Kora Homemaker Centre, a retail precinct valued at more than A$100 million. It is a proposed change in land use—not an announcement that the golf course has already closed, nor an approved building project.
According to Inside Construction's 3 November 2026 report, the i2C Architects concept features about 25,000 square metres of large-format retail and more than 700 at-grade parking spaces. The partners expect to lodge their planning application with Gladstone Regional Council in December 2026. A potential 2030 opening is explicitly conditional on approvals and delivery.
The proposed replacement course
Yaralla has associated redevelopment of the current site with its plans for a new 18-hole Byellee Waters golf destination. The concept includes golf and practice facilities, a clubhouse and broader community amenities. In February 2025, Gladstone Regional Council granted preliminary master-plan approval for Byellee Waters; that does not mean every construction stage is authorised or that the new course is ready.
Local reporting dated 4 November 2026 describes a proposed start in early 2027 and prospective completion around mid-2029. These are developer timelines, not confirmed completion dates. The new course has not opened for play.
What has—and has not—changed
The significant November development is the definition of the retail proposal: the partners, space requirements, indicative investment and expected application month. It is not confirmation that Gladstone Golf Club has stopped operating. Yaralla's official website still publishes opening hours, visitor green fees and booking information for the existing course.
Whether public access, the final works programme or the move between sites changes will depend on subsequent decisions. Readers should distinguish a preliminary approval for Byellee Waters from the still-to-be-lodged application for the Kin Kora retail centre.
