Nelly Korda clinches 2026 LPGA Player of the Year — one point shy of Hall of Fame

The LPGA confirmed Nelly Korda as its 2026 Rolex Player of the Year on November 3. A second early clinch gives her 26 of the 27 Hall of Fame points required; she has not yet qualified for induction.

The award is settled before the season finale

The LPGA confirmed on November 3, 2026, that Nelly Korda has clinched the Rolex Player of the Year award for the second time, following her 2024 triumph. The 28-year-old American secured the honor after the 5 p.m. Eastern entry deadline for The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican made the remaining mathematical scenarios impossible. She will be recognized at the Rolex LPGA Awards on November 17, during CME Group Tour Championship week.

This is not the Race to the CME Globe title, the money-list crown, or the Vare Trophy. Rolex Player of the Year is a separate LPGA points competition: top-10 finishes earn points at official events, with double points at majors. It rewards season-long results rather than prize money or world-ranking position alone.

Why her challengers could no longer catch her

Entering the LPGA's autumn Asian swing, Korda led the race by 75 points on the strength of four 2026 victories, including The Chevron Championship and the U.S. Women's Open. South Korea's Haeran Ryu remained her main challenger. Ryu's runner-up finish at the BMW Ladies Championship kept an outside chance alive, but she withdrew from the Maybank Championship before round one, narrowing the remaining combinations.

Miyu Yamashita and Jeeno Thitikul also had a slim theoretical pathway: each needed three wins and an additional start at The ANNIKA. Once its entry deadline passed on November 3, that route was closed. The timing matters: the LPGA's decision came from the points rules and confirmed entries, not from treating any unplayed tournament as complete.

One Hall of Fame point still required

The season-long award adds one LPGA Hall of Fame qualification point, taking Korda to 26 of the required 27. She has not yet been inducted or qualified for the Hall of Fame. An LPGA victory would earn her the last point; a major victory is worth two. Other routes include the Vare Trophy and Olympic gold, although Korda cannot win the 2026 Vare Trophy because she will not meet its minimum qualifying-round requirement.

Two official LPGA events remain where Korda could earn that final point this year: The ANNIKA and the CME Group Tour Championship. If she does not win again before the season ends, the milestone will remain a target for 2027 and beyond.

A rare early finish, but not the end of the season

Seven of the past ten Player of the Year races were settled only at the CME Group Tour Championship. Korda is the first player in that period to secure the honor twice before the finale, in 2024 and 2026. The comparison with Ryu, herself a two-major champion in 2026, underlines why this award should not be confused with the separate Rolex ANNIKA Major Award or any cumulative earnings record.

For the LPGA, other titles and individual events are still to be contested. For Korda, the season's most consequential remaining question may be whether a 20th career LPGA Tour victory delivers the final Hall of Fame point.
