A national title for a working PGA professional

Warren Pineo has won the 2026 Senior PGA Professional Championship, one of the PGA of America's premier competitions for club and teaching professionals aged 50 and older. The event was staged October 22–25 at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona. The association announced Pineo's victory on October 26.

A field of 264 PGA professionals from across the organization's sections competed in a four-day, 72-hole stroke-play championship using the club's Lost Gold and Prospector courses. This is not a regular PGA TOUR Champions event. Many entrants divide their time between competitive golf, teaching recreational players and the day-to-day responsibilities of club life.

A teacher with a serious competitive résumé

Pineo is affiliated with the Northern California PGA Section and teaches at Montreux Golf & Country Club in Reno, Nevada, and Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, California. His breakthrough at the national level was not an isolated performance: he shared ninth place in the 2025 edition of this championship and qualified for the 2026 U.S. Senior Open, as his USGA player biography confirms.

That background gives the victory particular significance. A professional whose primary work involves coaching has won an event that brings together some of the strongest playing club professionals in the United States.

The route to the 2027 senior major

The championship offers more than the Leo Fraser Trophy. The top 35 finishers earn spots at the 2027 Senior PGA Championship, scheduled for April 15–18 at The Concession Golf Club in Florida. That opportunity places club and teaching professionals alongside established names in senior professional golf.

For players who spend much of the year serving their clubs, this autumn qualification pathway offers an unusually direct bridge to a major-championship stage.
