Titleist has begun tour seeding of its new 2027 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls at the Baycurrent Championship at Yokohama Country Club in Japan.
The company is not yet revealing the models’ technical details. Those details are expected with the retail launch, which GOLF.com says will likely come in January or February 2027 if Titleist follows its usual product cycle.
The new balls first appeared on the USGA Conforming Ball List three weeks ago at the Biltmore Championship. By then, several PGA Tour players had already switched after an extended testing process led by Titleist’s R&D team.
PGA and LPGA Tour players including Adam Scott, Ryan Gerard, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Justin Thomas, Lottie Woad, Matt Fitzpatrick, Yana Wilson and Viktor Hovland had been testing final prototypes since March.
“When we’re in the middle of a testing session and a player asks me how soon he can play the new ball, I know we’re onto something. That’s how it’s been the last couple months,” Titleist Director of Tour Research & Validation Fordie Pitts said in a release, as quoted by GOLF.com.
Neal Shipley was among the first players to make the switch. He played the 2027 Pro V1 in Asheville, producing the best result of his career: a 62 in the second round and a tied third-place finish. Three other players in North Carolina also put the new balls in play—two with the Pro V1 and one with the Pro V1x.
Others followed in the weeks afterward, including Robert MacIntyre, who switched this week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. MacIntyre liked the prototype during a testing session at Harbour Town in April and worked with Titleist tour representative Liam McDougall last week to dial in the new 2027 Pro V1.
Doug Ghim, who contended at the Bank of Utah Championship, played the new 2027 Pro V1x for the first time this week.
The current-generation Pro V1 was released in January 2025. Based on Titleist’s regular retail cycle, a new version is therefore expected in January 2027.
As of the Biltmore Championship, Titleist players had 26 PGA Tour victories in the 2026 season—21 more than any other brand.
With many leading players teeing it up in Japan at the Baycurrent Championship, it will be worth watching who else moves into the 2027 Pro V1 or Pro V1x.
