Should Geoff Ogilvy Return as International Captain in 2028?
Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz believe Geoff Ogilvy deserves another chance as International captain, especially with the 2028 Presidents Cup set to be played in Australia.

- Geoff Ogilvy came close to leading the International team to its first Presidents Cup victory over the United States in decades at the 2026 event.
- won 17-13, but without a furious American charge in Sunday singles, Ogilvy’s captaincy would have gone down in golf history.
- captain Brandt Snedeker had even apologized for mistakes.
- Although the International team did not win, could Ogilvy get another chance to deliver its first Presidents Cup victory since 1998?
Geoff Ogilvy came close to leading the International team to its first Presidents Cup victory over the United States in decades at the 2026 event. In the end, the U.S. won 17-13, but without a furious American charge in Sunday singles, Ogilvy’s captaincy would have gone down in golf history.
For the first three days, Ogilvy seemed to do everything right. Heading into Sunday, his team had put the Americans in a difficult position, and U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker had even apologized for mistakes.
Although the International team did not win, could Ogilvy get another chance to deliver its first Presidents Cup victory since 1998?
On the latest episode of GOLF’s Subpar podcast, hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz discussed the question. In their view, Ogilvy should be given another chance to “run it back” as International captain.
The 2028 Presidents Cup will be held in Ogilvy’s home country of Australia, providing an additional argument for his return. The International team’s only victory also came in Australia—exactly 30 years before the 2028 event.
Ogilvy, however, could face the candidacy of fellow Australian Adam Scott. “Geoff Ogilvy is getting a lot of rave reviews as captain. There’s a lot of talk about him possibly running it back because it’s in Australia. The only problem is Adam Scott is kind of a big deal in Australia,” Knost said on Subpar.
Stoltz quickly suggested that Scott could again make the team, as he did this year at Medinah. “Would you expect him not to be on that team right now? He’s getting faster off the tee,” Stoltz argued.
Knost pointed out that Scott could serve as both player and captain, as Tiger Woods did for the U.S. team in 2019. “He might be a playing captain. Tiger was a playing captain down there,” Knost said.
Despite Scott’s potential candidacy, Knost and Stoltz ultimately agreed that Ogilvy would be the best choice as captain.
“He’s so well spoken, the players respect him so much,” Knost said. “He’s not playing a whole lot right now. He’s more involved in his design business. He can give this captaincy all he wants.”
“I thought going into the 2026 Presidents Cup, Geoff will do the right things, say the right things, make the right calls—and he did,” Stoltz added. “I’d run it back with him, especially because it’s in Australia.”
The 2028 Presidents Cup will officially begin two years from now, in late 2028, at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Australia.
