At the Australian Open tournament held on Sunday, Japanese golfer Ryo Hitsatsune encountered an unexpected problem at the 8th hole. During the game, his caddie, Taiga Tabuchi, handed him a wedge, after which Hitsatsune accidentally dropped the club. As it fell, the club touched the ball, causing it to roll a few feet away. According to golf rules, such actions do not fall under exceptions that could avoid a penalty, so Hitsatsune was penalized with one stroke and had to return the ball to its original position. This was a significant challenge for Ryo, who was already struggling on the Royal Melbourne course.
This mishap nearly ruled out the possibility of playing par, ultimately resulting in a double-bogey on 6 strokes. Consequently, Hitsatsune finished the tournament 6 strokes over par, placing 51st. Despite the unfortunate incident, Hitsatsune managed to continue playing with minimal losses, returning the ball to its place and incurring only one penalty stroke.
