Two days before the 2026 Maybank Championship opens in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has a compelling home player to follow: Mirabel Ting. The 21-year-old from Miri knows Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, but she returns with a markedly different professional résumé. She has finished first in the Epson Tour's Race for the Card, secured LPGA Tour playing rights for 2027, and earned both the developmental tour's major individual season awards.

As of October 27, 2026, the LPGA's official entry list confirms Ting in the October 29–November 1 Maybank Championship field. Crucially, she appears under the tournament's sponsor invitations. That entry route is separate from her earned 2027 LPGA Tour card: winning a card for next year does not retroactively give a player a full LPGA category for the current season.

How she earned her next opportunity

The Epson Tour's official 2026 statistics show 19 starts, 17 cuts made, 12 top-10 finishes and two victories for Ting. She claimed her first title at the Smoky Mountain Championship in August, beating Rachel Kuehn in a playoff after the two finished regulation tied. Later that month she won the Dream First Bank Charity Classic with a winning score of 14 under par.

A runner-up finish at the season-ending Epson Tour Championship in Indian Wells helped her finish No. 1 in the Race for the Card. Her Epson Tour profile lists roughly $191,100 in official earnings for that circuit. Those are Epson Tour earnings, not a combined LPGA total or her career earnings.

On October 5, the tour formally named Ting both 2026 Epson Tour Player of the Year and Gaëlle Truet Rookie of the Year. The distinction matters. These honors and her LPGA promotion recognize what she accomplished on the developmental tour; her two professional victories this season are Epson Tour titles, not LPGA Tour wins.

A familiar course, a different career stage

Ting has already made an impression in this tournament. She played Maybank as an amateur in 2024 and finished tied for 12th. This time she arrives not merely with promise but with experience winning professional events and a concrete pathway onto the LPGA Tour in 2027.

The challenge is to translate that form to a stronger international field. The championship is played on the West Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, with the official LPGA event page listing a par of 72, 6,536 yards and a $3 million purse.

Other confirmed entrants include South Koreans Haeran Ryu and Hye-Jin Choi, defending champion Miyu Yamashita of Japan, and numerous established LPGA players. Being on the same entry list does not mean they will share a tee-time grouping: groups and starting times depend on the official draw.

What Ting said on October 27

Speaking ahead of the tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Ting confirmed that Michelle Koh, a 2016 Olympian whom she regards as a close friend and older sister, will be her caddie at Maybank. According to Malaysia's The Star, Ting reflected on learning to manage travel, rest and recovery in her first full Epson Tour season, and on playing for herself instead of feeling bound by others' expectations. This is her stated approach to the home event, not a prediction of a particular result. The Star's October 27 press-conference report.

What the next four rounds can tell us

The two Epson Tour victories demonstrated Ting's ability to finish tournaments under pressure, but they do not guarantee a Maybank title challenge. The Maybank Championship has no cut; barring a withdrawal or disqualification, players can compete across all four rounds. At a course with strategically placed water and demanding approaches, potential storylines include fairway accuracy, distance control into the greens and decision-making. These are editorial points to watch, not tactical statements attributed to Ting.

Play begins October 29. Until official scores are posted, the firmly established story is a shift in status: a sponsor-invited Malaysian contender returns to her national showcase as a two-time Epson Tour winner, the Race for the Card leader and an incoming 2027 LPGA Tour player.
