A veteran wins again at 43. On October 23, 2026, Japan's Michio Matsumura (松村道央) won the Japan Create Challenge at Fukuoka Raizan, part of the Japan Golf Tour Organization's ACN Tour. It was his first victory on that developmental circuit in 19 years, dating back to the 2007 PRGR CUP FINAL, and his first professional title on any circuit in 11 years, since the 2015 Bridgestone Open on the main Japan Golf Tour. Those are two distinct droughts, not an indication that the ACN Tour and the principal tour are the same competition.
Four behind, then one ahead. Matsumura began the final round tied for eighth and four shots off the lead. He returned a bogey-free 66 featuring five birdies to finish on 204, nine under par, after rounds of 71, 67 and 66. The JGTO's official leaderboard puts Koki Domeki (70-66-69) and Shotaro Tanaka (67-68-70) together in second on 205, eight under. Across three rounds, a single stroke separated the champion from both runners-up.
The shot that decided it. On the 18th hole Matsumura struck an approach from about 54 yards to within roughly a metre of the cup and converted the birdie putt, according to the official JGTO report. It was a fitting finish for a player whose comeback has depended less on trying to overpower younger rivals and more on accuracy, physical preparation and repeatable practice. Matsumura discussed placing greater emphasis on stretching and maintaining his body as he has grown older.
What the title could change. Matsumura is a five-time winner on the main JGTO Tour, but lost full playing status in 2017. His victory at Fukuoka Raizan puts him in a promising position to secure starts on the main Japan Golf Tour during the first half of 2027. The tour describes that route as nearly secured; it should not yet be presented as a fully guaranteed card. For a 43-year-old who spent more than a decade waiting to win again, the significance is not just the trophy but a renewed path to higher-level events.
