Rain is uncommon in Phoenix, so umbrellas do not get much use there. When it does rain, golfers usually cancel their plans and stay indoors. Marksbury recently used the Shed Rain umbrella in actual rain in Arizona, but its UPF 50+ sun protection led her to think she might use it even more in sunny conditions.

According to Marksbury, many golf umbrellas can be heavy, awkward and difficult to manage in strong winds. Shed Rain’s model has a lightweight aluminum shaft, a durable fiberglass frame and a vented canopy designed to handle the elements.

The author particularly likes the automatic-opening button. It makes the umbrella easier to open in the wind and reduces the risk of pinching fingers while locking the canopy in place. The 62-inch canopy arc is wide enough to comfortably cover two people.

UPF 50+ protection also makes the umbrella useful away from the course, including at children’s practices and other outdoor activities. The outside of the canopy is silver, while the underside is available in several prints, including Mariner, Mason and Mirage. The handle color coordinates with the print.

For golfers who find the 62-inch version too wide, Shed Rain also offers a 47-inch model with the same print selection. Prices are $40 for the 47-inch umbrella and $50 for the 62-inch model. Marksbury notes that the pricing is especially attractive compared with many golf umbrellas, which cost $70–$100.

One final advantage: the handle fits neatly into a push-cart holder, making the umbrella practical for walking in any weather. Shed Rain also provides a lifetime warranty.
